Description
The New York Paramount Theatre's Wurlitzer truly deserves its distinction as "the king of organs." Besides the standard well-equipped battery of stops (flutes, clarinets, diapasons, strings, celesta, reed chorus, French horns, brass trumpets, vox-humanas), this incomparable machine is outfitted with an enormous percussion ensemble, including piano, a giant carillon, orchestral chimes, marimba harps, multiple xylophones, glockenspiel, snare drums and an entire octave of tuned tympani. Needless to say, this extraordinary array, played by Bill Floyd, offers ample possibilities for orchestrating popular tunes of the 1950s.
