American Fair is an intimate study of the hard-working farmers of York County, Maine, facing a vanishing way of life, their knowledge of land and beast, commitment to tradition and community - interdependent and pulling together. At the 140th fair in Acton, farmers congregate in the spirit of both co-operation and rivalry. Families show off their finest handicrafts, agricultural produce and livestock. Teamsters compete to see whose animal is the strongest and whose daughter the most beautiful. Through the voices of farmers and townspeople, vendors and carnival workers, a portrait of a community joining together in celebration of the honest, hard-working agricultural traditions of the region is revealed. Fathers and sons, knowledge of land and beast, carnival workers and strange stories, country girls, ox-pulling, dairy showing, beauty pageants, a pig scramble and more! This feature-length ethnographic documentary quietly reveals the agricultural heritage of the region and opens our eyes to a wholesome side of American culture - as people of the earth.

Amin is the story of an ancient musical tradition and one man's struggle to preserve it. It is told using a unique approach to documentary storytelling that challenges the boundaries of fiction and reality. Amin Aghaie is a young modern nomad from the south of Iran. He has dedicated his life to preserving, documenting and teaching the unique musical tradition of his people, the Qashqai tribe, a tradition on the verge of extinction. Despite the fact that Amin's family face steep financial and cultural obstacles, they are devoted to their art and culture and express that by supporting the work of their talented musician son. Every summer, Amin travels to remote towns and villages to record the music of the surviving masters whose numbers decline each year. His nomadic family sell their meager belongings to help support their son's education in performance and ethnomusicology at Tchaikovsky's Conservatory in Kiev, Ukraine, but it is not enough. Amin, desperate to finish his academic education, sells his violins one at a time just to pay for his tuition.

It is also about Amir's life as a professional musician and his relationships with other musicians in Peshawar. Between 1973 and 1977 John Baily carried out extensive ethnomusicological fieldwork on the urban music of Afghanistan, particularly in the western city of Herat. In 1985, he traveled to Peshawar to film Afghan refugees who were musicians and again met his old friend Amir Mohammad, from Herat. The film portrays aspects of Amir's life as a refugee - his living conditions in Peshawar and his longing to return to Herat. It is also about Amir's life as a professional musician and his relationships with other musicians in Peshawar. Musical performances include resistance songs at a Pakistani wedding. "It is a poignant production. The plight of refugees comes through and should leave no-one indifferent." — Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, UN Co-ordinator Operation Salam

A unique and highly visual documentary that provides a detailed observation of the sacred Peruvian 'Yawar Fiesta of the Apu Condor'. A unique and highly visual documentary that provides a detailed observation of the sacred Peruvian "Yawar Fiesta of the Apu Condor". The Fiesta takes place high in the Peruvian Andes in the tiny village of Cotabambas, an impoverished farming community where all the contradictions that characterize Peru's splintered culture and economy are thrown into relief. Five hundred years after the arrival of Columbus and the Spanish Conquistadores, the indigenous Andinos, descendents of the Incas still live under the feudal control of their Mestizo Landowners, the mixed blood descendents of the Spanish. The themes of social stratification, ritual reversal and political relationships are an integral aspect of this film which culminates in a dramatic adaptation of the classic Spanish bullfight.
