One of them, fed up with the teely discipline and hard work, escapes by swimming to the city: above him, the night sky is illuminated by neon lights and fireworks. Guohui and Peiling meet on the island after years of being apart; their love, which dates back to their childhood, is still strong. But their relationship is undermined by Peiling's insecurity. The haunted become the hunted. In this horror film set in Malaysia, a Japanese-American woman's recurring nightmare drives her to Pontianak on the island of Borneo where she thinks her dead birth mother is calling to her. Charity and three friends, plus a local guide, head for the jungle river but their all-terrain vehicle breaks down on the way and they are forced to trek through the jungle to find the river. Eye, the local guide, fully aware there are ghosts in the jungle, proceeds cautiously, but Charity and her friends have yet to be convinced these things really exist. When a woman mysteriously appears near an abandoned hut, an old man appears as well, and the trekkers helplessly watch as he beats her inside the hut. It is after this that the horror turns on Charity and her party, and the killings begin. The link between Charity's nightmares that sent her to Borneo and the horrors that visit the group is an unsolved mystery but hinted at as part redemption and part revenge.

At various points in its history, tiny St.John's Island, south of Singapore, was where Singapore's colonial founder Sir Stamford Raffles docked his ship upon arrival, a quarantine centre for immigrants and pilgrims returning from Mecca, a penal coloy for political detainees and secret society leaders, and a sleepy holiday resort. Unlike neighbouring islands, however, St. John's was never fully developed. It occupies an in-between space, the vestiges of its history scattered around the land: out-of-bound markers and fences, deserted paths and dilapidated housing. Its indeterminancy stands in sharp contrast to Singapore, where land use is meticulously planned to fulfill economic and social functions. In this film, St. John's Island - otherwise known as "buki Orang Salah" (approximately, "Hill of Wrong People" or "Hill of Misfits"), a nickname coined by the people who were quarantined there - becomes a site of and for reflection, prompting questions about our history, heritage and identity.

A group of social outcasts establish themselves as a new order to give self deceit a better name. Set in a surreal town called Faeryville, the group's school is ruled by hip teens who are convinced by their leader, W. Ashe Faeke, that they have been oppressed all their lives by their parents, society, culture and religion so as to conform them to the Standards of the Ideal Faeryvillian. Banding together with Faeke are Toilet Duck, Lipp, Edgey and Wynn, and they lead a resistance group against Faeryville's establishment, calling themselves The Tzaintes. The formation of The Tzaintes gives the outcasts hope but is not understood in Faeryville town. This sets in motion a move by the authorities to subdue and destroy the new reality created by the outcasts. Filmmaker Tzang Merwyn Tong has created a fiction that deals with the real growing pains of teenagers and their attempts to make sense of society. [e' Tzaintes] (pronounced as 'the saints') is a low-budget independent film made by non-professionals.

A young Malay girl befriends an ostracized Chinese boy and embarks on a quest for independence to protect their secret and fragile world. In the monsoon season of 1980s Singapore, Syafiqah enters a harsh institution where she befriends an ostracized boy, Huat. Misunderstood and bullied, they while away the afternoons in the giant storm drains behind their school, carving out a fragile world of fantasy. But as the rains intensify, a vow of secrecy forces her to embark on a quest of independence well beyond her years. With its sensitive imagery and honest performances, this delicate coming-of-age film recalls memories of childhood within a swiftly evolving city-state.
