Description: The National Archives at Kew holds records of central government departments that were responsible for the United Kingdom's colonial administration and affairs. This collection contains original correspondence from 1896 from the Colonial Office (established 1854), as well as its predecessors, relating to the West Indies. Records from government departments, organizations, and individuals to the Secretary of State are related primarily to economic and political affairs in the West Indies. Topics include international trade, a Bermuda to Jamaica telegraph extension, and sugar bounties.
