Description: The National Archives at Kew holds records of central government departments that were responsible for the United Kingdom's colonial administration and affairs. This collection contains original correspondence from 1689-1952 from the Colonial Office (established 1854) with general records relating to the colonies. The collection includes Board of Trade correspondence, Law Officers' reports on colonial acts, applications for passports and colonial appointments, and the private correspondence of Earl Bathurst and R W Hay.
