Description: This series contains documents related to the National School Lunch Program, which was created under the National School Lunch Act of June 4, 1946, and similar predecessor programs. This act authorized federal assistance to school lunch programs in the form of a state grant-in-aid program providing for both cash and food assistance. The main objectives of the program were to protect the health and well being of the nation's children and to encourage the domestic consumption of nutritious agriculture commodities and other foods. Records related to the National School Lunch Act includes correspondence, memorandums, reports, reference publications, and other records documenting the policies, procedures, and programs of the National School Lunch Program.
