Description
Two pages supporting a section on social structure and a fifth chapter on chiefs, as outlined in the preceding documents, contains a column of typed numbers, possibly referring to lines in a draft manuscript of 'Coral Gardens and Their Magic.' The notes are primarily written in English or indigenous text, and include: a genealogical chart; a list of a chieftain's wives, with apparent village and clan relationships; descriptions and sketches of various implements; the texts of 10 'friend stories'; texts of other 'kukwanebu,' or mythical tales; vocabulary lists; partial manuscripts on sexual and other practices; geographical maps and drawings; texts of magical spells; notes on the annual harvest festival; a partial letter, in French, from local pearl trader Raphael Brudo; and a partial, handwritten account of fishing practices, possibly written by a different author.
