In 1971, Ofelia Domínguez Navarro wrote _50 años de una vida_, a memoir of her life. It includes most of _De 6 a 6_, but it also stands alone as a memoir and a testimony of Cuban life and society throughout her lifetime. As Cuba was a leader in testimonial writing, Ofelia’s contribution fit in with the methods of historical and literary inquiry. Ofelia Domínguez Navarro (1896-1977) belonged to the feminist, nationalist, and communist revolutionary groups in Cuba between 1920 and 1977. She wrote a memoir of her four imprisonments during the dictatorships of President Gerardo Machado and President Carlos Mendieta. She was a teacher, lawyer, firebrand, journalist, and activist for women and the working class. She was also one of the initial members of the Cuban Communist Party and a close friend of Julio Antonio Mella, its founder. She founded her own women’s and worker’s rights parties: the Unión Laborista de Mujeres and the Unión Radical de Mujeres in 1930 and 1931, respectively. She participated in the three national congresses on women’s rights, 1923, 1925, and 1939. She served on Dictator and President Fulgencio Batista’s delegation to the United Nations, ultimately leading it in 1957 and 1958.

From the beginning of the republic, Cuban historians gathered and glorified national history in speeches before an academic audience. They mostly spoke of patriots and battles, but a basic element of Cuban national identity was martyrdom. Cuban patriots fought and died for a total of fourteen years. Their form of resistance was guerrilla warfare, and soldiers relied on women to fight, spy, run guns, and nurse the wounded and ill. Women died of ma...
From the beginning of the republic, Cuban historians gathered and glorified national history in speeches before an academic audience. They mostly spoke of patriots and battles, but a basic element of Cuban national identity was martyrdom. Cuban patriots fought and died for a total of fourteen years. Their form of resistance was guerrilla warfare, and soldiers relied on women to fight, spy, run guns, and nurse the wounded and ill. Women died of malnutrition in the prison camps and in prisons. They sent their children to war. The national narrative used the manner by which women sacrificed their lives and those of their family members to signify the ultimate rendering of the Cuban soul for freedom. The speeches given in academic setting 50 years after Cuba was independent from Spain retained the passion of the independence and molded images of female martyrs into the official historical record. These are only a few of those speeches delivered in the 1950s.

Shot in Venezuela over a 30-year period, this documentary depicts the life and work of Jose Maria Korta, the controversial Jesuit Missionary with the indigenous people of the Amazon. Shot in Venezuela over a 30-year period, this documentary depicts the life and work of Jose Maria Korta, the controversial Jesuit Missionary who joined the Makiritare tribe in the remote upper Ventuari Amazon Territory to initiate economic self-development projects in which Indians produced honey and meat, managed their own transport systems and participated in a broad based marketing co-op called CEPAI. The success of these ventures, and Korta's increasing dedication to economic development instead of proselytizing caused resentment among other missionaries. The Indians at times mismanaged their new resources as they found themselves unprepared for the increased contact with the outside world. In 1990 Korta realized that although CEPAI had gone a long way to solve some of the economic problems particularly in the Amazon basin, it had not addressed general cultural issues.
