When he literally bumps into Amélie - slightly cynical but nevertheless lovely - on the jogging path, he's dead-set on making a connection with her. As a bit of contrived fate brings them together, Arman's best friend Benjamin suffers an unexpected stroke, relegating him to the hospital for weeks where he falls for his doting young physical therapist. Over the course of two autumns and three winters, Arman, Amélie and Benjamin share the incidental moments, unexpected accidents, unconventional love stories and unforgettable memories that will define who they are.

Two Friends, the first feature film by Academy Award® winner Jane Campion (Sweetie, An Angel at My Table and The Piano). When Two Friends was shown at the 1986 Cannes Film Festival along with her three shorts, the film world heralded the brave new feminist voice of the extraordinary New Zealand director. Two Friends was written by renowned Australian novelist Helen Garner and the film's screenplay is articulate, assured and enthralling. The film begins in the present, when teenage girlfriends, Louise and Kelly, once inseparable, have already grown apart. Louise is in high school, gets good grades, and has a typical love-hate relationship with her divorced mother. Kelly, in bleached hair and punk gear, lives with friends at the beach and is experimenting with drugs and casual relationships. Two Friends then moves backwards in time over the past year in the girls' friendship. In five episodes, the film reveals the subtle changes that sent the two on their different paths. With the humor, fierce honesty and passionate sense of humanity that are the hallmarks of Campion's best work, she tells a story of missed opportunities and minor traumas that take on profound new meaning with the passage of time.

Lota comes from the poor rural area of Bangladesh and dreams to improve her status and gain economic independency. She moves to megacity of Dhaka, finds shelter in a slum and starts to work in a garment factory. She works 12 hours a day, earning 50 cents of a dollar per hour. Tigist, Ethiopian girl, was ment to have more priviledged life. She was born in a family of two teachers, but after both her parents died in a car crash, she became a victim of abuse by her relatives. Escaping from a situation of enslavement, Tigist ends up on the streets of Addis Ababa. Without a place to sleep or anyone to call for, she is quickly surrounded by predators and has to fight for her surivival. 2 Girls is a character-driven and observational documentary about two young women, who are linked to each other through a universal journey of poverty and abuse for the sake of dreaming a better life. It’s a heartbreakingly harsh journey, where Lota and Tigist meet their hopes and destinies. Yet, despite their tough lives, they reveal an inner strength and great dignity. They come from poverty, they fall into even worse conditions, but they never stop striving to improve their state. Overwhelmed by global injustice and gender-oriented abuse, Lota and Tigist manage to keep their souls uncorrupted by the wrongdoings they face. The story of 2 Girls is a story lived every day by millions of girls all around the world but rarely has it been told with the same power of testimony than in this documentary.

Vladimir Ashkenazy in a series of legendary recitals, filmed by Christopher Nupen's camera.
A few days before the 75th birthday of one of our century's greatest pianists, we gather the exceptional archives in which, at the beginning of the 1980s, Vladimir Ashkenazy performs the Beethoven last five sonatas as well as milestones from the Chopin repertoire. Beethoven and especially Chopin are two composers which Ashkenazy never stopped performing and recording during his long-time career, from the year 1956 when at the early age of 19 he was awarded the second prize at Chopin Competition, until now. Go back in time and meet again the 40 year-old Vladimir Ashkenazy – the concert pianist who had not yet started a career as a world-renowned conductor.

In 1947 “Concert Magic” was filmed in Hollywood making it the first ever concert filmed for movie audiences. In addition, many short films were made to fill the space between the traditional "double features". They were also often used as encores when enthusiastic audiences demanded them and feature works by composers whom no one knew Menuhin performed. Among these encores is an especially valuable rarity, the violin concerto of Felix Mendelssohn. The length (ca. 25 mins) prevented it from inclusion in the film. This footage shows Menuhin’s very first recorded performance of the violin concerto under Antal Dorati. Even music specialists are unaware of the existence of this previously unreleased material! Also available: A Violinist in Hollywood (35'58): Menuhin speaks about the origin of the film and reminisces about events which transpired at the time of the film as well as his life and career. On the Encores (10'45): Menuhin comments on his playing technique - is reactions and commentsabout the pieces are very personal.

Preferring not to fly, Indonesian cousins Ambar and Suf make a car trip from Jakarta to a family wedding one day away. Ambar's older sister is finally getting married at age 27, and her mother has given nephew Suf the important task of transporting the wedding dinnerware. But what should have taken one day by car takes three as the two young people take detours to explore the exotic countryside while smoking joints and popping pills. Their adventures open honest but painful dialogue between the two throughout the rest of their trip. Through sparring and silence the two are growing closer - perhaps closer than cousins should.
