1959 IN REVIEW
A year of unprecedented travel, ceremonies and consultations by the great power leaders, with the outstanding highlights being Vice-President Nixon's visit to Russia and debate with Premier Khrushchev, Khrushchev's fabulous, flamboyant tour of America, and President Eisenhower's historic and unprecedented tour of 11 Free World Nations.
The exploration of Space proceeded with notable achievements by both the Soviet and the United States, the Reds reaching the moon for the first time, and giving mankind its first glimpse of the other side, and America making major strides in preparing for man's first actual voyage into space.
In this hemisphere, Cuba's first year under the reign of Fidel Castro and the opening of the Canadian-U.S. St. Lawrence Seaway in joint ceremonies by Ike and Queen Elizabeth topped the news. Hawaii followed Alaska into the Union, with exultant celebrations throughout the Islands to mark the dream fulfilled.
Romance made news, with the same fairy tale theme thrice repeated. Prince Akihito of Japan married a pretty commoner, Mishiko Shoda; multi-millionaire's son Stephen Rockefeller wed a former family maid, Anne Marie Rasmussen, and the Shah of Iran married a former bobby-soxer, Farah Diba.
Japan was ravaged by the worst typhoon in its history, with a toll of 5,000 lives. John Foster Dulles passed away after a long and valiant fight against cancer.
In Asia, Communist China manifested growing aggressiveness, turning Tibet into a bloody repetition of Hungary. The Dalai Lama and thousands of his subjects fled to India, which later in the year was embroiled in armed clashes with Red China over border disputes. In Southeast Asia, Red puppet forces menaced the tiny but strategic state of Laos. Grave omens for the future from the rapidly mobilizing masses of mainland China, a dark undercurrent to the mood of hope with which Ike's (illegible text)

NEWS HIGHLIGHTS OF 1964
The year 1964 was a year of change. A year that saw the rise and fall of national leaders around the world. Once again the strength of democratic processes demonstarted in the United States as Republicans and Democrats fought it out for the Presidency. The loudest voice of all was the quiet American voter. He sent Lyndon Baines Johnson back to the White House with a 16,000,000 plurality over Barry Goldwater.
In BRITAIN, voters there ended 13-year Conservative Party rule. Lord Home resigned and Harold Wilson, Labor Party leader, took over as Prime Minister.
KHRUSHCHEV joined the "outs" but behind the Iron Curtain it's different...he had the red carpet pulled out from under him by his "friends" on the Central Committee.
Death came for some world figures.....
NEHRU, the only Prime Minister India has ever known since independence was accorded a moving tribute by millions of Indians.
Death also claimed the man who has been called the greatest military genius in American history - GENERAL DOUGLAS MacARTHUR.
HERBERT CLARK HOOVER, 31st President, recieved a national tribute as he lay in state in the nation's Capital.
Historical precedent was shattered by POPE PAUL VI as he travelled first to the Holy Land and then to India.
The United States increased its aid to South Vietnam, but political uncertainty there continued to hamper the war against the Vietcong rebels.
A lot of loud-mouthed dames roared along the eastern seaboard. Hurricane Hilda was the loudest of the lot.
ALASKA was shaken by the greatest earthquake ever recorded on the North American Continent.
A bright chapter was in the course of human events, written with the passage of the Civil Rights Bill.
A mighty voice was heard in space as Ranger VII took four thousand pictures of the Moon in man's greatest space achievment.
Finally, 1964 will go down in history as the year of the FAIR--- the New York World's FAIR, the greatest exposition ever staged.

UNIVERSAL NEWSREEL SYNOPSIS RELEASE 39-1
NEWS HIGHLIGHTS OF 1963
That page of history that is 1965 began with the inauguration of the 36th President of the United States and ended with a great U.S. triumph in space.
President Johnson's inauguration set the tone for his administration's great society.
The Civil Rights Drive gained new impetus with demonstrations across the nation and the signing of the Voting Rights Bill.
Death came to the man who led the free world from the threatening doom of slavery to a glorious victory. Men remembered and paid last tribute to Winston Churchill.
Adlai Stevenson died as he lived -- a simple man who belonged with those who became great figures without holding high office.
Again in 1965 man stood helpless against the forces of nature. The toll of floods and tornadoes proved that he was still unable to cope with many of his earthbound problems.
Pope Paul VI made history himself by becoming the first Pontiff ever to visit the United States. At the invitation of the United Nations he addressed that international body calling it "Man's last hope of peace."
The U. S. increased its commitments to South Vietnam in both men and materials and, despite widespread Anti-war demonstrations in the U. S. vowed to wage war to victory.
There were bright and glorious moments, too. Gemini Four carried James McDivitt and Edward White aloft for White's famous "walk in space." Just six months later Gemini Six and Gemini Seven met 185 miles above the earth for their famous rendezvous and brought to groundlings some of the most amazing movies ever made.
It was a year of sadness, a year of triumph, a year that now belongs to history.
