CHICAGO, ILL.--A terrific blast of mysterious origin wrecks a paint-manufacturing plant, killing twenty persons and causing injuries to forty others. A falling wall crushes an automobile flat against the pavement.
ITALIAN TROOPS OPEN DRIVE
ERITREA.--Aided by shouting black allies from Italy's colonies, Il Duce's war machine moves into Ethiopia without a formal declaration of hostilities. The advancing soldiers cross the wilderness stretching along Haile Selassie's frontiers.

PRINCETON, N. J. -- A fighting Tiger eleven marches down the gridiron in an brilliant last-quarter drive to snatch victory from a Red and Blue team by the score of 7 to 6, rousing 49,000 football fans to wild excitement.

ETHIOPS BUILD BOMB-PROOFS AS FOREIGNERS FLEE CAPITAL
ADDIS ABABA.--The last Italian Consul leaves the country, passing through the city after a fourteen-day trek with his family through the wilderness from the interior. Local Customs officials hold up the refugees for twelve hours before escorting them to the Legation. Troops are rushed to the front in the train used by escaping whites as engineers construct a huge bomb-proof shelter in a hill overlooking the community.
ARMY FIGHTS FOUR-DAY FIRE
MALIBU HILLS, CALIF.--A $10,000,000 brush and forest blaze, one of the most disastrous in the history of Southern California, sweeps over a 100-mile area, whipped by a high wind which balks the efforts of thousands, endangering the costly homes of the motion-picture colony.
TRI-PHIBIAN PLANE EXPLODES
WASHINGTON, D. C.--A strange new craft designed to travel on land and water and in the air takes fire during an official test, inflicting second-degree burns on the pilot inventor. Police yank the intrepid airman from his blazing machine in the nick of time.
