The Lebanese Civil War saw 170,000 dead, 1 million displaced and 17,000 people still missing. During the conflict thousands of teenagers picked up arms to fight in a 15 years war that tore the nation apart. Moving through the testimonies of Assad, a right wing Christian intelligence officer; Ahed, a Palestinian refugee fighter and Nassim, a Communist commander, About a War unpicks the personal motivations, trauma and regret of militiamen who picked up arms during the civil war. With no official account of the conflict, their testimonies build a multi-perspective picture of a crucial turning point in Lebanese history that radically transformed the Middle East.

The Apology follows the personal journeys of three former “comfort women” who were among the 200,000 girls and young women kidnapped and forced into military sexual slavery by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. Some 70 years after their imprisonment in so-called “comfort stations', the three “grandmothers”– Grandma Gil in South Korea, Grandma Cao in China, and Grandma Adela in the Philippines – face their twilight years in fading health. After decades of living in silence and shame about their past, they know that time is running out to give a first-hand account of the truth and ensure that this horrific chapter of history is not forgotten. Whether they are seeking a formal apology from the Japanese government or summoning the courage to finally share their secret with loved ones, their resolve moves them forward as they seize this last chance to set future generations on a course for reconciliation, healing, and justice.

"I live in Baghdad. I am a blogger. A blog is an online diary." So begins this succinct report from Salam Pax, an Iraqi journalist attempting to keep the world informed about his beleaguered country. Pax regularly sends fifteen-minute video reports to the BBC. Filmed in Najaf, Baghdad, Karbala, and the south of Iraq, they are cleverly worded, cantankerous and non-partisan overviews of reality outside the Green Zone. The blogger made his pseudonymous name with "The Baghdad Blog," an online English-lingo journal of life before, during and since the U.S. invasion. An architect and decidedly Western-skewed fellow, he is troubled by the inability of the Americans to maintain a stable occupation. He witnesses the failure of the interim government under Prime Minister Allawi and the formation of a new army under the cleric Al Sadr. This army has undermined the American plan of an orderly political process leading to elections. Instead, it has created havoc. Pax slowly and sadly closes his laptop at the end of the film. A "cutting edge" discussion starter for journalism and communications classes, as well as Middle East studies. College Adult

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel. Gabriela Shalev, UN Ambassador, Israel. Alireza Moaiyeri, UN Ambassador, Iran. Ingrid Jaradat Gassner, Director of BADIL Resource Center, a Palestinian NGO. Attorney Alan Dershowitz, the Felix Frankfurter Professor of Law at Harvard Law School. Put them all together and what do you have? Given the topic, Israel and Palestine, and cast of characters, quite an interesting and evenly-balanced documentary, which, of course, is the point behind this production: to hear both sides and hope in doing so both sides can move forward, to end the bickering, to end the hatred, to end the violence, to help those who are desperately in need of help. We view events of the failed 2001 and 2009 UN World Conferences against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance in Durban, South Africa; witness incendiary statements by the controversial Ahmadinejad; hear the protests and see the walkouts, which drives home the point of how difficult it is to bring people together about this topic that has divided people for decades. However, the question lingers, in airing the differences, can people find common ground in order to address the much larger and more important problems that need to be addressed and solved? That is the hope
