Taiwan Earthquake: The epicenter of 1999's Taiwanese earthquake was here at Chi-Chi. The quake, measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale, took place just before 2am in the morning on the 21st of September. Known, accordingly, as the 921 quake, the disaster occurred along the Chelungpu fault line, which stretches down the western part of the island of Taiwan.
