MUSICAL GAMES. Tracks 4-5: musical games evening 29 Jan. 1986 at Kenyé. Young teenagers mostly took part. After half an hour they switched to dancing elanda (See DAT 67). Total time: 21 1/2m. Track times: 4) 15 1/2m. 5) 6m, end games 29 Jan. '86 at Kenyé. Track 6: musical games late afternoon 27 Feb. 1987 at Kenyé. Young teenagers again. After ten minutes they switched to elanda (See DAT 67). Track time: 8m. Tracks 7-12: musical games night 11 Feb. 1992 at Yandoumbé. Young teenagers (mostly girls) and older children. Total time: 38 1/2m. Track times: 7) 8 1/2m. 8) 4m. 9) 7 1/2m. 10) 4m. 11) 7 1/2m. 12) 7m, end games 11 Feb. '92 Yandoumbé. Tracks 13-18: evening camp scenes 26 June 1994 at Boungingi forest camp. Children playing games (tracks 13 & 14). Track 14 is a villager (i.e. Bantu) game brought down from the small savanna 50 km to the north (a Catholic mission for Bayaka called Monasao) by a young teenage girl who moved with her family to Yandoumbé. Tracks 15-18 are boyobi songs and really belong on DAT 44, since they lead into the boyobi (tracks 1-4 on DAT 44). Total time: 16 1/2m. Track times: 13) 3 1/2m. 14) 4m. 15) 2 1/2m. 16) 1m. 17) 2 1/2m. 18) 3m, end camp scenes w/ children 26 June '94 Boungingi. Track 19: another evening camp scene, this one on 24 Oct. 1992 at Likimbi forest camp. The children (mostly girls) performing their own Limboku. Once again, their efforts were followed that night by a grand boyobi (See DAT 32). Track time: 7 minutes. Tracks 20-23: Forest scenes, noon and after 12 July 1994 in primary forest at Boungingi. Total time: 11m. Track times: 20) 1 1/2m. 21) 2 1/2m. 22) 3 1/2m. 23) 3 1/2m. END DAT 66'

The first elanda I ever recorded. The participants form a circle and sing, the men often with a kind of grunting. Each person takes a turn dancing a brief solo in the center. It all moves quickly. Total time: 24m. Track times: 1) 4m. 2) 3 1/2m. 3) 1m. 4) 3 1/2m. 5) 8m. 6) 4m, end elanda 22 Jan '86 Kenyé.Track 7: Elanda afternoon 23 Jan. '86, Kenyé. Teenagers and Balonyona (grown man). Time: 3m. Track 8: elanda preceded by musical games, 29 Jan. '86, Kenyé in the evening. This is the elanda that followed the musical games (tracks 4-5 on DAT 66). This was a very small group of teenagers, so few they didn't bother to form the customary circle. TIME: 47 1/2m. Tracks 9-10: from elanda late afternoon 27 Feb. 1987 at Kenyé. The elanda immediately following musical games (track 6, DAT 66). The deep revving sound near the beginning is a bull roar I brought with me from Europe. Total time: 27 1/2m. 9) 18m. 10) 9 1/2m. Track 11: from elanda evening 8 March '87, Kenyé. Track time: 22 1/2m. This elanda 8 March '87 continues on DAT 68. END DAT 67'
