Alexander, a recent volunteer to the Solomon Islands, asks Firth about stories he heard while on Tikopia, including the killing of missionaries and labor recruiting on the island. Also asks about polulu/palolo. Date: April 19, 1975. (2) Typewritten response from Raymond Firth to David Alexander. Firth advises Alexander to 'accept the stories for what they are...modern accounts of what are treated as traditional happenings.' Firth also explains that he is not sure polulu and palolo refer to the same thing. Both letters mention New Zealand anthropologist Hugh Laracy. Page 1 of Firth's letter is typed on the back of an order form from the American Philosophical Society.
