But in early 1939, as conditions were worsening for Jews living inside Nazi Germany, the Philadelphia couple embarked on a risky and improbable mission – an effort to rescue 50 Jewish children and bring them to safety in the United States. The couple faced imposing obstacles. The United States government, not to mention a vast majority of the American public, was largely indifferent to the plight of Jewish refugees seeking to escape from Adolf Hitler’s increasing persecution. America’s rigid immigration laws also made it nearly impossible to bring refugees – even children – into this country. The Krauses, who were Jewish, also had to face the risks of traveling into Nazi Germany and dealing with the Gestapo and other Nazi officials in their effort to carry out their bold rescue plan.In the spring of 1939, Gilbert and Eleanor Kraus sailed for Europe and into the heart of darkness. 50 Children: The Rescue Mission of Mr. and Mrs. Kraus for the first time tells the incredible story of an American couple who, against all odds, brought the single largest group of children during the Holocaust out of Nazi Germany and into the United States. In the general election of the constituent assembly of Pakistan in December 1970, secular Awami League, led by Bengalee leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, won absolute majority. But instead of handing over power to the elected Bengalee representatives, the Pakistan army on 25th March 1971, launched a brutal military crackdown on the Bengalee code named as 'Operation Searchlight'. And since then up to the liberation of Bangladesh in December, for long nine months, the marauding Pakistan army perpetrated a genocide in East Pakistan. It is claimed that around three million people were killed, more than two hundred thousand women were raped and about ten million refugees had to flee to India. The Bengalee military and para-military personnel, the youth and the students formed the Freedom Fighters (Muktibahini), who resiliently fought against the Pakistan army and their Islamic collaborators. In December, a full-fledged war broke out between India and Pakistan, and Bangladesh was finally liberated on 16th December as an independent state. Depicting all the main events of the year 1971 Tanvir Mokammel has made a research-based three hour-thirty five minutes (215 minutes) long mega-documentary titled as '1971'. For the people of Bangladesh the year 1971, for its association with the war of independence, has remained a glorious year. But at the same time, as so much carnage happened around, it was also a sad time. The year 1971, for the people of Bangladesh remains, to borrow Charles Dickens' expression— 'it was the best of times, it was the worst of times!' For the documentary Tanvir Mokammel shot 250 hours of footage and interviewed 176 individuals including military commanders, freedom fighters, politicians, diplomats, raped women, refugees and survivors from the mass killings.

An extremely powerful film showing the terrible risks that Africans will take to get to The Promised Land. Juan Medina, an Argentine photographer, arrived in Spain twenty years ago. Medina was looking for a better life and decided to settle in Fuerteventura, attracted by a tourist slogan portraying it as 'The Tranquil Isle.' He could not have guessed then that he would be an eye witness to the tragic exodus of Africans to Europe. Over the last ten years, 32,000 Africans have landed on the coast of the Canary Islands in makeshift boats. Many have died in the attempt, drowned in the 100 or so kilometers of seas separating the islands from the African mainland. One night in November 2004, Juan was on board a Spanish police patrol vessel. A drifting craft was spotted full of immigrants. But the makeshift boat capsized: 11 people drowned and 29 were rescued.

In 2018, Spain received more than 13,000 migrant children – mostly from Morocco or sub-Saharan Africa. While they mainly land in Andalusia, most of them dream of going to another Spanish region: Catalonia. The Catalan child welfare services offer them a reception and protection system that is unparalleled in Europe. On the heights of Barcelona, 47 migrant children live in the “Mas Pins” reception center. In that environment, they have the freedom to live as any other child: they go to the local school, learn a trade, play football... They have fled violence and misery, taken dangerous paths, crossed the Mediterranean... And now, thousands of kilometers away from their families, helped by their educators, their teachers or the staff of the center, they aspire to become full-fledged European citizens. The Catalan protection services help them from the time they arrive until they are 21 years old.

Two decades of armed conflict between the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) and the Ugandan government in Northern Uganda, has created an unprecedented humanitarian crisis and regional instability. With nearly two million civilians displaced from their homes into so-called "protected camps," Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) face heightened insecurity, appalling living conditions and lack the very basic means of subsistence. While the LRA has committed war crimes against the displaced population, including the abduction of some twenty thousand children, the Ugandan People's Defence Forces (UPDF) who were mobilized to protect civilians have also committed human rights violations including arbitrary detention, torture and rape.
Through the personal stories of IDP torture survivors, Between Two Fires advocates for official acknowledgement of abuses committed by the UPDF, redress for torture survivors, and the strengthening of national legislation against torture.

Stories of unspeakable atrocities compelled Krakower to journey north despite warnings by the locals that it was far too dangerous. Along the way, he became aware of the Lord’s Resistance Army and the 24-year long rebellion led by cult rebel leader, Joseph Kony. As he learned more about the war, Krakower and his crew changed their focus and this film.
Hear the stories of the children who live in constant fear of kidnap, forced slavery, and decimation of family. Listen to the children who escaped and survived in spite of their capture. Witness the only existing interview of Kony, who claims spirits have aided him throughout this fight. Discover how the Acholi people find a way of life among corrupt government soldiers whose protection from the rebels are accompanied by their own heinous abuses of power.
