Liban, réconciliations d'après-guerre
Between 1975 and 1990 the war ravaged Lebanon, leaving a very heavy toll and a bloodless country. This film deals with the work of peace and development of reconciliation in Mount Lebanon. During the "mountain war" (1983-1985) between the Lebanese Christian Forces and the Druze forces of the Progressive Socialist Party, massacres were perpetrated, places of worship destroyed on both sides, and approximately 160,000 Christians were was forcibly displaced. As part of the policy on the return of displaced persons led by the Ministry of Displacement (created in 1992 in accordance with the Taef Agreement), the majority of Christians have returned and reconciliations have been sealed between them and the Druze. Today, however, some reconciliations have not yet been completed. Why, fourteen years after the end of the war, does the resumption of communal life come up against still unresolved disputes? Two families, one Christian from the village of Brih, the other Druze from Abay, are seeking ways of understanding. They share with us their sufferings and their hopes and evoke the difficulties of their daily life. This process towards reconciliation, with its political dimension given by the Ministry of Displacement, is an opportunity for the spectator to better understand this period in the history of Lebanon. The Lebanese example as a multi-confessional society gives food for thought on learning to "live together".
