In the film, high-rise developments serve as magnified totems for a heavily congested urban environment fueled by Waikiki’s fabled touristic appeal....

By chance, the same location is now the back door of Trump Int’l Hotel Waikiki. In the film, high-rise developments serve as magnified totems for a heavily congested urban environment fueled by Waikiki’s fabled touristic appeal. The film questions this interpretation of a paradisiacal paradigm in what could otherwise be termed a post-traumatic site, drawing on the creation and toxicity of the Ala Wai Canal as a potent metaphorical comment. This research project received funding from the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland.

This fast paced and chilling story of the Chernobyl disaster, pieced together from eyewitness accounts and historic film footage, shows a cover up of epic proportions. April 26, 1986 marked the day of no return for the residents of Pripyat, just north of Kiev. It was here that Units 3 and 4 of the nuclear reactor of Chernobyl exploded, spewing radiation as far as Scandinavia and Japan. It was here that the dangers were kept from the residents, who witnessed "outsiders in strange suits" with geiger counters come to "clean up" the plant. It was days before the government decided to evacuate the population, telling the residents they would return shortly. Pripyat is still uninhabitable. This was the biggest disaster of the industrial age. More radiation was unleashed than at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Vegetation, cattle, milk, and even firewood was, and continues to be, contaminated all over Belorus and Russia. A whole generation is growing up surrounded by sickness and death. As the spectre of failing nuclear reactors looms large, especially in the former Soviet Union, this film will forever be a chilling reminder of the potential for disaster. High School College Adult

They convert the red and dried valleys into a lush green using ancestral irrigation methods. However, climate change threatens their very existence. In the village of Tizi Anoucheg, Rachid has been trying to solve the severe water problem. He found enough fundings in order to tap water from a spring, and even to make a fountain. Rachid is now planning to aide other villages around the Valley. To do so, he will rely on French engineers who assist him concerning underground geology as well as water treatment techniques. Together, they head into the Atlas Mountains in order to understand the water cycle of the region, and to pinpoint local pollution sources. This venture leads them to the Yagour plateau and the discovering of mighty canyons.

Blowin’ in the Wind examines the secret treaty that allows the US military to train and test its weaponry on Australian soil. It looks at the impact of recycled uranium weapons and the far-reaching physical and moral effects on every Australian. The film’s release has been timely as the government currently moves to approve more uranium mines while arguing the contrary – that by going nuclear we are being both ‘safe’ and ‘green’.
Blowin’ In The Wind reveals that Iraqi babies are now being born with major birth defects. Bradbury wonders whether Australians living downwind from the military testing ranges will be next. He argues that we were lied to by the British over the Woomera and Maralinga atomic tests. Can we trust another equally powerful partner in our ‘war on terror’? With a cash budget of just $12,000 Blowin’ In The Wind raises pertinent questions which cannot be ignored by the Australian public. The film shocked, angered and surprised large audiences when shown at the Sydney and Brisbane Film Festivals.

Reel 4, penstock pipe sections are trucked from factory to the dam site and lowered into position by cable. Concrete is poured into cofferdams.
