This is a multi-award winning documentary about Unit 731, Japan's secret World War II biological and chemical weapons facility in the Chinese town of Harbin where biological weapons were developed during the Japanese Occupation. The film uses the same footage as seen from two points of view. The first half gives the perspective of the Chinese government and describes the horrors and atrocities that occurred during World War II at the facility. The second half, using almost the exact same footage, describes Unit 731 from the Japanese revisionist perspective which is largely supported by the ruling Liberal Democratic Party in Japan. Although its cruel experiments on living people produced thousands of casualties, this activity is still denied by a number of Japanese historians and politicians. Generational change has contributed to the escalating history problem between Japan, China, and the two Koreas. Not only were the majority of Asians born and educated after the war; as a result of the education they received in their own countries, their memories and ideas of the war have become more divergent. Usage of the same shots in both parts of the film ironically demonstrates the potential to misuse film images for political purposes. College Adult

Pour continuer de vivre après ce drame, Maggy a décidé de rester dans la tourmente sur ses collines natales... Depuis, elle tente de désamorcer la haine entre les ethnies, de rompre le cycle de vengeance, d'aider chacun à retrouver sa dignité. Avec énergie, avec colère, elle poursuit son travail. Cette femme pourrait déplacer des montagnes. Sa vision est engagée, politique, et son action s'étend à un niveau national. Elle dit que la guerre est finie mais qu'il y a une autre guerre à mener, " c'est la guerre contre la pauvreté, contre la haine, contre l'ignorance. " En filmant l'action de Maggy, nous sommes confrontés au passé d'un pays. Ici les gens et les lieux portent toujours les traces de la guerre.
In Burundi, inter-ethnic massacres have followed one another for decades, leaving thousands of orphans. Marguerite Barankitse (Maggy) lived through the worst atrocities and miraculously survived. To continue living after this tragedy, Maggy decided to stay in turmoil on her native hills ... Since then, she has been trying to defuse hatred between ethnic groups, to break the cycle of revenge, to help everyone regain their dignity . With energy, with anger, she continues her work. This woman could move mountains. Its vision is committed, political, and its action extends to a national level. She says that the war is over but that there is another war to be waged, "it is the war against poverty, against hatred, against ignorance." By filming the action of Maggy, we are confronted to a country's past. Here, people and places still bear traces of war.

Two decades of armed conflict between the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) and the Ugandan government in Northern Uganda, has created an unprecedented humanitarian crisis and regional instability. With nearly two million civilians displaced from their homes into so-called "protected camps," Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) face heightened insecurity, appalling living conditions and lack the very basic means of subsistence. While the LRA has committed war crimes against the displaced population, including the abduction of some twenty thousand children, the Ugandan People's Defence Forces (UPDF) who were mobilized to protect civilians have also committed human rights violations including arbitrary detention, torture and rape.
Through the personal stories of IDP torture survivors, Between Two Fires advocates for official acknowledgement of abuses committed by the UPDF, redress for torture survivors, and the strengthening of national legislation against torture.

This film paints a picture of a country that in many ways is still as deeply divided as when the Dayton Accords were signed in 1995. Reasons for pessimism abound. Sarajevo had a reputation as a multi-ethnic, tolerant city but there are signs that it has fallen under the thrall of nationalist Muslims. Only the presence of foreign forces, police and advisors from the UN and the European Union has maintained the fragile balance between Bosnia’s Serb Orthodox, Croat Catholic, and Muslim communities over the dozen years since the civil war. The country has three presidents, one for each community, but the government is riven by crises – often with the same causes as those that sparked off the war.
