3--The global breadth of Yankee bombing activities is strikingly brought to attention in scenes from New Guinea, where practise bombings of abandoned Japanese shipping attest to American accuracy from the skies.
LEADERS IN NORTH AFRICA
1--In Algiers, Generals DeGaulle, Giraud and Catroux hold open conclave outlining their policies to the legislative body of this French territory.
2--Meantime, Prime Minister Churchill with party, drops in on the Allied Command in conquered Tunisia and goes over final plans for the "Big Push," now developing.
"MEMPHIS BELLE" FLIES HOME
After 25 successful raids over Nazi Europe, the Flying Fortress known as "Memphis Belle" flies the Atlantic for a rendezvous at Washington, D.C. The original crew of ten, and their mascot, will reluctantly leave the de-commissioned ship.
TRUCKS THAT SWIM
Adding to the American magic which is befuddling our unsuspecting foes are the new 2 1/2-ton U. S. Army trucks known as "ducks." With a large pay load, they cruise the roads. On approaching water, they merely nose in, and swim for it. They do everything but fly.
WATER EVERYWHERE--AND TO DRINK
Being marooned in a life-raft for months loses one of its terrors as the U. S. Navy successfully develops a purification process which renders sea water palatable.
COMMANDOS--SOUTH AFRICAN STYLE
The spirited "African Rifles" go through vigorous final training as they race the obstacle course, leap over yawning trenches, and walk tenuous cable bridges with gusto. And for a finale, they worm their way through treacherous barbed wire entanglements.

THE DEMOCRATS CONVENE
CHICAGO STADIUM, CHICAGO--With the echoes of the GOP convention barely subsided within these walls, Chairman Robert Hannegan calls the Democratic National Convention into session.
Personalities abound including Mrs. Claude Pepper of Florida, Congress-woman Mary Norton of New Jersey, Senator Jackson of Indiana (permanent chairman), Senator Scott Lucas, the old warrior James Farley and others.
Mrs. Charles Tillett of North Carolina addresses the Convention--then the glamorous Helen Gahagan (ex-Broadway star, wife of film star Melvyn Douglas, and herself a candidate for Congress from California) gives a thrilling speech.
Finally, Oklahoma's Chief Executive, the Honorable Robert S. Kerr, delivers the keynote address, which stirs its hearers, all the way down their spines.
INDEPENDENCE DAY IN EUROPE
In France--General Eisenhower observes General Bradley fire a giant howitzer which signals our massed artillery into a massed crescendo of fire. Behind the lines, the French string "Welcome" signs all over, improvise American flags, and a choral group of French children sing "America." They love our mow-oon-tains.
In Rome--Old Glory is raised at the Piazza Venezia, near the Victor Emanuel Memorial, scene of Nazi retreats.
CANADIANS ADVANCE
After a well earned rest, following the landing battles in Normandy, the Canadians return to the thick of the fighting at Cariquet. So severe is the fighting that some of the Canadian camera crew were killed while filming these shots. In their sector, the Yanks are blazing through the hedge rows with grenade guns.
WACS SEE EGYPT
Vacationing from Italy a group of WACS live the life of Cleopatra. After tip-toeing through a Mosque, they ride some miles on some camels getting an eyeful of the Sphinx and the Pyramids. Then they drift down the river in dhows. Wotta life.
THE BLACK WIDOW
HAWTHORNE, CALIF.--Uncle Sam reveals the Black Widow, the largest and most powerful pursuit plane in the world. It has the power of a Delsel locomotive, carries tremendous armament, and like the owl, it is a night flyer.

DEMOCRATS NAME F. D. R. AND TRUMAN
THE STADIUM, CHICAGO--Excitement mounts at the Democratic National Convention as Senator Alben Barkley accredits President Roosevelt with the outstanding virtues of many of our previous presidents, then places his name in nomination. Pandemonium breaks loose.
From a West Coast Naval Station, Mister Roosevelt accepts the nomination. His clear cut speech, citing some of the high spots in his three administrations, rings out over the huge Chicago assembly.
Nominations for the Vice-Presidency are opened. Henry Wallace, Paul McNutt and Scott Lucas jockey into position but--the hand of destiny which has been guiding U. S. Senator Harry S. Truman of Missouri, projects him into the number two spot on the Democratic ticket.
"COMING BACK" AT CAPRI
Convalescent U. S. Airmen live a luxurious life at this resort island near Naples. Ice cream, baseball, bathing and dancing capricious steps with beautiful young ladies--that's the ticket at Capri.
THE AQUATENNIAL
Minneapolis stages its beautiful annual Aquatennial as exceptional floats monopolize attention in a gigantic parade. And Rollo, weight about 450 lbs., unsuccessfully aspires to be Queen.

RUSSIA SMASHES THE NAZIS
Russia's armies continue their sledge-hammer drives on the entire Eastern front. In scenes typical of the entire blazing offensive, we watch Red mortars and tanks blasting paths through the crumbling German lines. Buildings blow up, snipers are mowed down . . . hand grenades and machine guns finish the job.
An army of Nazi prisoners trudges rear-ward, to oblivion.
RETURN OF THE REFUGEES
In Normandy, scores of refugees climb through piles of ruined buildings, seeking refuge and food. They find both at their church. The children are so hungry they swab their plates clean.
WAC DECORATED
FORT MEYER, VA.--Pfc. Mary Jane Ford, WAC, is awarded the Soldier's Medal for her efforts in attempting to save a soldier from drowning.
GEN. ROOSEVELT DIES
The popular leader, Brig. Gen. Theodore Roosevelt is shown taking his last tour through the French area held by his command. A week later he is dead of pneumonia. We watch his military funeral.

THE CAPTURE OF ST. LO
After 40 days of continuous fighting the Yanks mount a huge offensive which is aimed at St. Lo, Nazi stronghold. They cautiously proceed through the tricky terrain, bringing their machine guns, bazookas and mortars into murderous action.
Soon, Nazis appear waving white flags. The Yanks file onward past anti-personnel mines, and are on continuous alert for snipers. Shattering artillery and air barrages have prepared the way for them as they enter battered St. Lo. Snipers are hunted out and the victory is made secure.
So secure is it, that an "Out of Bound" refugee camp is set up, where in short order, French children are observed at play.
ACE PARACHUTISTS
FORT BENNING, GA.--As a recruitment call for volunteer paratroopers goes out through the U.S. Army, demonstration pictures show various of the training maneuvers which these "heroes of the skies" undergo before they graduate into their combat position at the very vanguard of Uncle Sam's G.I. Joes.
WAVES IN THE CORN
CEDAR FALLS, IOWA -- Waves relieve farm labor shortage by helping local farmers de-tassel the corn, to insure an adequate supply of the desired seed for next year. Then they get into the ears, up to their cars.
PLANE DISASTER (Exclusive)
JACKSONVILLE, FLA. -- Two Army fighter planes crashed in mid-air, then plunged into a local neighborhood, causing extensive damage to homes and apartment buildings.
PISTOL HEAD COMES HOME
LA GUARDIA FIELD, N.Y.C.--Pistol Head, a cocker spaniel who had accompanied his master, Lt. Col. Theodore Willis, on 48 flying missions in the South Pacific, is returned home to his mistress, after the Colonel had failed to return from a solo mission.
DEFIANT NURSES
NORMANDY--Captured Nazi ladies who had been serving as nurses, are a study as they file by Yank cameras. Most of them are docile, but though they are destined for speedy return to their own lines, some female fists are waved in defiance.

THE YANKS STORM GUAM
A tremendous task force approaches hilly Guam, in the accepted pattern of U.S. invasion of territory held by the Japs. Terrific gun fire and air bombs shatter many of the Jap shore positions--then the "amtracs" (new amphibious craft) swim out from the ramps of huge L.C.I.'s and the shores of this Jap-held American island are approached.
A few of the little craft are set on fire as Jap hits are registered, but the remainder get in. The Yanks leap ashore--Universal's intrepid cameraman, Irving Smith, right in their midst. A quick reconnaissance reveals that Jap battle stations have been razed, just as they were at Tarawa and Kwajalein. The landing is successful and the battle to secure the entire island is (illegible text).
FROM NORMANDY TO BRITTANY
Allied planes unlimber their guns on Nazi targets, with telling results. Ammunition trains, enemy planes, buss-bombs etc. are destroyed. We see part of the tremendous variety of rolling equipment which the Allies have landed in France. After huge battle tanks roll into action--the familiar sight of surrendering Nazis soon follows.
As jeeps screech along, one G.I. digs himself a luxury fox hole. And on finishing an inspection tour of the liberated territory, Winston Churchill boards a Naval cutter, waving goodbye to twirling his topper his topper on a cane.
GENERAL CITES SHORTAGE
WASH, D.C.--Lt. Gen. Somervell declares manpower shortage in critical areas is cutting essential war production.
PHILADELPHIA STRIKE
A complete tie-up of transit facilities in the Quaker City follows a labor dispute based on local problems. Transportation of war workers finally causes Federal Government to step in.
DEWEY IN SPRINGFIELD
SPRINGFIELD, ILL.--Republican nominee for President is royally welcomed by Gov. Green and the populace as he visits this shrine of the G.O.P.
26 GOVERNORS MEET
ST. LOUIS, MO. -- Demonstrating the unity within their ranks, 26 Republican Governors meet at the planning table to discuss the campaigns of Gov. Dewey and Gov. Bricker, heads of the G.O.P. national ticket.
