Filmed in Canada by U.S. Army Signal Corps cameramen, this film had its world premiere on October 28 at 9:30 P.M. over the coast-to-coast facilities of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Tracing the history of the Canadian Army from the middle of the 18th century to present, the film examines the historic relations of Canada and the United States. The fruitfulness of Canadian-American solidarity is nowhere more evident than in the shoulder-to-shoulder fighting shared by Canadian and American soldiers on the battlefields of Europe and Korea. Evident throughout the story is the vigorous neighborly spirit which has contributed so mightily to the strength of Canada and the United States alike. Canada's modern Army embodies a living tradition begun long ago and nourished by the many soldiers who contributed service and sacrifice, who led its regiments and filled its ranks on the battlegrounds of the world.

A PREVIEW TO INVASION
With every American tensely waiting every bit of information on the invasion battles in France, we deem it our public duty to present a pictorial record of how the invasion looked when rehearsed in various training areas abroad.
Supreme Commander Gen. Dwight Eisenhower's historic invasion message is heard as the landing barges plunge through the waves, with swarms of protective planes overhead. Battleships roar. Thousands of commando parachutists float to earth.
We see the Nazi practicing their defense. Huge guns are manned and their machine guns spit their staccato messages of death. Our barges land. Our troops leap ashore, back their way through the barbed wire, and all participants are fit and ready for the actual invasion of Nazi Europe.
AMERICA RECEIVES THE NEWS
Electric signs in New York City and Philadelphia carry the news of the landings in France to millions of city dwellers. The newsrooms of the giant radio networks turn into bee hives. The churches of the nation are jammed with devout parishioners, who are praying from the depth of their hearts for their loved ones in the services. And Gen. George Marshall and Gen. Hap Arnold enter the electrified atmosphere of the White House.
KING AND THE GRAND FLEET
King George VI inspects units of the Grand Fleet which is massed for important duties.
FIRE AND RUINS IN BERLIN
Huge clouds of smoke enshroud large burning areas of Berlin. And other sections of the Nazi capital are shown in utter ruin.
BABY SUBMARINE
British 2-man submarines are seen. The men, dressed in diving suits, sit on a torpedo and operate special releasing mechanism.
474 NEW "GENERALS"
WEST POINT--Graduation exercises are held for the '44 class. Lt. John Eisenhower draws special attention, but the marrying chapel gets very special attention.
DESTRUCTION OF THE LUFTWAFFE
Miraculous pictures of Nazi planes getting blown to bits (in the sky and on the ground), and of other feats of marksmanship by fleets of Allied airmen.
BEAUTIES REAP FLAX
KARNES COUNTY, TEXAS -- Patriotic girls, enlisted in the "Harvest Brigade," operate self-propelled harvesters in local flax fields. The brigade will cut huge swaths through the grain fields, all the way to Canada.
SUDS FOR G.I'S.
The British sailors have their grog--now the G.I. Joes in Italy get their American beer from a Naples brewery. It's a stirring sight to see the boys go for the stuff--they even rise from the earth to get a snootful.

FIRST PICTURES INVASION OF FRANCE

11,000 Allied planes plant their tons of pulverizing bombs on shore installations, strategic roads and bridges--then swoop down to strafe enemy trains, ships and planes
In England, the daredevil paratroopers sail away to their designations and the air-borne troops follow in their gliders. 4,000 ships set sail for the Cherbourg peninsula. The guns of the invasion navy roar into action. Assault boats bounce through the heavy sea . . . shore is reached and the intricate Nazi defences are penetrated.
Nazi prisoners are rounded up, and the many Allied and Nazi wounded are treated and returned to England. Allied heavy equipment rumbles by and the French natives welcome their liberators. Supreme Commander Dwight Eisenhower visits the scene and is welcomed by Generals Montgomery and Bradley.
The air poundings continue, and the mop-up search for snipers is on. The invasion is successful.

U. S. STRATEGISTS AT HAWAII
Commander-in-Chief, President Roosevelt convenes with General MacArthur, Admiral Nimitz and Admiral Leahy, after arriving from the mainland on a sleek, modern cruiser.
Their meeting is loaded with significance, as all attention is centered on a huge map of the western Pacific, with particular attention directed at the Philippines and Tokio.
On the parade grounds, the famous Seventh Regiment, heroes of the Aleutian outpost and the Kwajelein campaigns, pass in review.
YANKS ADVANCE IN GUAM
From their established beachhead, the Yanks attack Japs who are entrenched at Point Chonito, a high land. Mortar fire is particularly effective.
General Holland Smith, U.S.M.C., watches his men advance and capture their objective. Jap dead cover the ground in droves, and Jap installations are totally destroyed. One of the first tasks of the Seabees was the erection of a flag pole. The Stars and Stripes are restored to Guam.
YANKS ADVANCE IN FRANCE
We watch the Yank pattern of attack in France. Terrific bombing and artillery fire combine to disrupt Nazi ground transport, and to precede the advance of Yank infantry and tank units.
Town after town is found in utter ruins. Enemy equipment lies shattered everywhere and prisoners are secured in telling numbers. Jeeps race along, and the Doughboys march by in a celebrating mood.
DEEP SHELTERS
LONDON -- Buzz-bombs force Londoners to seek safety in their recently completed Deep Shelters. Life within their confines does not differ too greatly from normal life above ground.
THE HAMBLETONIAN
GOSHEN, N. Y.--The "Corn Tassel Derby" (returned to its native running ground) is won in straight heats by Yankee Maid, the favorite--and Queen of the trotting track.
ONE MILLIONTH CHECK
PARMA, OHIO--The Social Security Board draws its millionth check and presents it to Mrs. Mary Thompson, the first in a series which may amount to $15,000.00 for the widow and her two children. Her husband had paid in $145.00.
