By Ehi E. Aimiuwu. This case study is for business students, who are taking a class in Disaster Recovery from an internet securities perspective. It is recommended that the students should have been exposed to the issues of disaster recovery (DR), recovery plans, business criticality, business tolerance, computer security, risk management techniques, and recovery strategies before reading this case. This case is about trying to measure the disaster recovery preparedness (DRP) of a university by creating a disaster recovery preparedness score (DRPS) in order to evaluate how prepared universities are for major disasters that may disrupt their business operations. It also serves as a template for students to understand and appreciate the parts of a complete implementation of a university’s DRP plan.

By David Conklin. The Kyoto Protocol was established in 1997, but many issues remained unresolved and many nations refused to sign. International negotiations and conferences continued, with attempts to strengthen the Protocol. The EU led the way with national emission targets, caps for major firms, and an emission trading system. Other nations pursued alternative public policies including subsidies to change consumer and corporate decisions, and initiatives aimed at specific sectors such as motor vehicles and electricity generation. Developing nations faced a dilemma in preferring to invest in stimulating economic growth. In response to this dilemma, negotiations sought to establish a program of financial assistance to help cover the costs of emission reduction in developing nations. However, by 2013 many issues remained unresolved. Businesses had to decide how best to respond to emission reduction pressures and had to decide whether their location decisions should be influenced by cost differences due to regulatory differences.

By Darwish Abdulrahman Yousef. This study is designed to explore the learning styles preferences of the managers at local government departments in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK), the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It also probes whether there are statistically significant differences in the learning styles preferences of managers due to gender, nationality, age, education level, experience in the present job, tenure in present department, managerial position and marital status. For this aim, a structured questionnaire survey, based on Honey and Mumford’s (1986) Learning Style Questionnaire (LSQ), was used to collect data from 72 participating managers at local government departments of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah and obtained scores for the four learning styles, namely activist, theorist, reflector, and pragmatist. We used descriptive statistics such as frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviations to present the main characteristics of participating managers and the results of the study. Additionally, t-test, Mann Whitney test and Kruskall-Wallis were used to test the hypotheses of the study. Results suggested that participating managers have strong preferences in the activist, reflector, theorist and pragmatist categories. Results further showed that 79% of participating managers have strong to very strong preferences for theorist learning style, 72% for reflector learning style, 65% for pragmatist learning style, and 53% for activist learning style. Results also revealed that there are no statistically significant differences in the learning styles of the participating managers due to gender, nationality (except for activist and reflector learning styles), age (except for activist, reflector and pragmatist learning styles), education level, experience in the present job (except for theorist learning style), tenure in present department, managerial position (except for activist learning style) and marital status (except for pragmatist learning style).

The various parts of the article describe the field of macro-economics, what it does, what it teaches and with what it concerns itself. Economics is viewed by many as dull. This overview aims to demonstrate that macro-economics, a sub-part of economics, is interesting, and relevant for managers’ work and personal life.
