But the Southern gentlemen start too late, and the mythical national championship goes to the West Coast eleven.

The indoor track season jumps off to a record start on both the East and West Coast. Mary Rand of Britain sets a new broad-jump record in Los Angeles, beating the old mark by more than a foot. In New York, Tom Farrell sets a new record in the Half-Mile race as he battles Bill Crothers of Toronto down to the wire. His new mark topples the record held by speedster Peter Snell of New Zealand.

Mr. Johnson says the United States is ready to begin, without conditions, diplomatic discussions to end the war in Vietnam. He then states that the United States is ready to start a billion dollar investment to bring economic independence to all of Southeast Asia, including North Vietnam.
