BOSTON K OF C MEET:
A sit-up-and-take-notice performance was given by 17-year old John Thomas at the Massachusetts Knights of Columbus Meet at Boston. The lad emerges from obscurity to set a new world's indoor high jump record. 6' 11 3/4". In the 600 yard event, a duel - - between Ed Collymore and Rudy Smith finishes with a startling nose dive.

137,000 BELGIAN MINERS STRIKE
A labor upheaval of major proportions besets Belgium as every one of the 137,000 of the nation's miners strike in sympathy with 6,000 thrown out of work when the government closed six unproductive mines. Unrest spreads rapidly. With strikers and sympathizers storming the streets in protest. Communications are cut. It takes heavy police detail to deal with the angry mobs.
