This extraordinary documentary on sex-trafficking in Southeast Asia interweaves four young women's stories to reveal an institution that enslaves as many as 40 million women worldwide. Shot clandestinely in Myanmar (formerly Burma), "Anonymously Yours" is often shocking, frequently harrowing, and always compelling. Through the brutal honesty of the four women's stories the film exposes the commonplace bartering and selling of women and the cycles of poverty that enslave them. From the back rooms of teashops and restaurants to the lounges of five-star hotels, the Far East sex trade thrives on the routine merchandising of girls and women for the sexual escape and pleasure of men from all cultures. Through their unforgettable and poignant testimonies, these four sex workers introduce Western audiences to the widespread corruption and staggering poverty that are the status quo in much of the world -- and the primary causes behind one of the fastest-growing and most vicious industries on earth: the sale of human beings. We all know the exciting, sweaty, scary, uncomfortable feeling arriving at a border. You will have to submit yourself to the guards standing in front of you. In a split second your mind is alert. “Do I carry any illegal product, are my papers in order, did I take my “special” cigarettes out”, what about the snake skin boots..? Probably everything is in order, you played by the rules, but…Power is not in your own hands at the border. They, the guards will check your papers, they might check your luggage. The guards may want to check your body and maybe even they will want to check the inside of your body. Life is out of your own hands. The film Borders starts at the Schiphol Airport Detention Centre. Its unique filmmaker Jacqueline van Vugt was able to film inside. Here we encounter the border between The Netherlands and Nigeria, by Clara, 16 years in the Netherlands. She is expelled, back to her country of origin, Nigeria. In Nigeria the journey starts a new. Border by border the film Borders follows the route from Nigeria to The Netherland, a route taken by many immigrants. The subsequent Borders are the protagonists; Nigeria-Niger-Burkina Faso-Mali-Senegal-Mauretania-Marocco-Spain-France-Belgium-The Netherlands. The Borders change; the people, the light, the colours, the temperature, the use of technical instrument, …but the influence of power is always there!at The anguish, the scary thrill, will posses you - being there – at the Borders.

While everyone knows of the history of slavery in the USA, few people realize that Brazil was actually the largest participant in the slave trade. Forty percent of all slaves that survived the Atlantic crossing were destined for Brazil, while only 4% were sent to the U.S. At one time half of the population of Brazil were slaves. It was the last country to officially abolish slavery (1888) and one of the ex-slaves is still alive today. This well-researched BBC production charts Brazil's history using original texts, letters, accounts and decrees. From these original sources, we learn firsthand about the brutality of the slave traders and slave owners, and the hardship of plantation life. With the Portugese colony of Angola acting as a "factory" supplying Africans to Brazil, it was cheaper to replace any slave starved and worked to death than to extend his life by treating him humanely. Few plantation owners sent for their wives to live in this hot climate, so the softening effect of family life was absent among the rough white settlers. Historians Joao Jose Reis, Cya Teixeira, Marilene Rosa Da Silva, anthropologist Peter Fry, and others recount the effect of centuries of slavery on Brazil today. It is a story of deception and cover-up on a grand scale. The true legacy of the disaster can be seen on the children's wards of hospitals. Total hair loss is one of the more visible signs. Sadly for the children, the number of cancer diagnoses is growing alarmingly. We learn that thousands of men from all over the Soviet Union were dragged from the streets and drafted for the clean-up operation. Those working in the area of highest radioactivity received, in a single 90-second-shift, the maximum dosage of radiation allotted for a whole lifetime. It is believed that half of these men have died. Ordinary people were placed in danger through lack of information, while officials quickly evacuated their own families. It is estimated that 280,000 people worldwide will contract cancer because of the disaster. College Adult

Through the remarkable eye of first time film director, GREG REITMAN, we get a first hand glimpse of The Magic Isle. While exploring historical, social, and environmental changes, the film captures the mystical splendors, natural beauty and romance of Santa Catalina Island. Using a mix of rare 16mm, archival film and old black and white stills, inter-cut with interviews of islanders, historians and celebrities; the viewer is taken on a journey during America’s golden era. It begins with the acquisition of the Santa Catalina Island Company in 1919 led by William Wrigley, Jr. He set a course for Catalina’s future in the world of art, sports, music and entertainment that was unmatched in US history even through present day. The film documents architectural achievements, many first of a kind buildings and innovations that transformed Catalina from a simple island into a modern day state-of-the-art playground. The film highlights many of the individuals including stars of the Big Band Era, Marilyn Monroe, and the island’s role as Hollywood’s secret playground for the stars. The island even played a role in helping to elect President Ronald Reagan. We witness the island’s tragedy and heartache – deftly captured in the film with heartfelt interviews and a score that tugs at the emotions. Utilizing interviews with Jean-Michel Cousteau, heirs of the Wrigley family, residents and visitors of the island; we learn of William Wrigley, Jr’s dream of preserving the island’s natural beauty as well as providing a magical place for all to enjoy. The film concludes with Art Good Jazz Trax, Fender’s Catalina Island Blues Festival, and a visual kaleidoscope of modern day Catalina Island as an ecological paradise highlighting the revival of the island as a place of leisure and entertainment.
