Deposed heavyweight champion Cassius Clay is found guilty on draft-evasion charges and sentenced to five years in prison and fined $10,000, the maximum penalty. Released on bail, he awaits a decision on his appeal, which could take 18 months.
NEW DELHI RIOT
Indian students storm the Communist Chinese Embassy in New Delhi, following the expulsion of two Indian diplomats from Peking on spying charges. Eight Chinese aides are beaten, as their Embassy is stoned, their flag ripped down.
MOVIE FUND
MCA Board Chairman Jules Stein announces that Universal will produce a major film whose profits will go toward the Motion Picture Relief Fund. A search is already underway for a suitable "blockbuster" property. Unions and Guilds pledge cooperation.

World opinion is heavily in favor of the West and the Russian propaganda machine seems content to let the onus rest on the East German regime and not on the Soviets themselves.

A huge air-sea search fails to find any clue to the disappearance of AMELIA EARHART and her navigator, who were lost in the Pacific.
The RUSSIAN AIRMEN were setting records 25 years ago, too. Three men set a new mark in flying over the North Pole from Moscow to Los Angeles.

ALLIES STAND FIRM IN BERLIN:
Berlin continues to be front page news in every corner of the globe. Chancellor Konrad Adenauer arrives in West Berlin for a visit that proves a great morale booster to the German people as the Reds continue to pile charge upon charge against the West. The Chancellor makes a tour of the border and was the object of taunts from East sound trucks. Now the Reds have bricked up windows that overlook the border to prevent escapes through those buildings.
QUICK-FROZEN ENTERTAINMENT:
They wowed them in Moscow and now they're back in the U.S. It's the "Icecapades" readying their 22nd annual tour.
"COME SEPTEMBER"
In these days of holding world premieres in all parts of the world, UNIVERSAL-INTERNATIONAL holds one right in Hollywood's back yard - Beverly Hills. The new picture premiere is attended by Sandra Dee, Bobby Darin and Rock Hudson who are in the movie that also stars Gina Lollobrigida and Walter Slezak.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO
A quarter of a century ago saw the opening of the miracle of the age- Boulder Dam. Today it still stands as one of man's monumental engineering triumphs.
President Roosevelt met with Alf Landon, his rival for the Presidential office, at a conference of Governors. Mr. Roosevelt soundly trounced him in November.
Italian Dictator Mussolini threshed the first wheat from reclaimed lands. His star was rising only to end when he was lynched by an Italian mob.
Remember Father Divine??? Here the cultist is shown leading his "angels" to a newly purchased "heaven".
In these days of pioneering trans-Atlantic flights Harry Richman and Dick Merrill flew to England successfully and then crashed unhurt in Newfoundland on the return trip.

There's a period of watchful waiting in Berlin as the West Berliners await the next move of the Allies. The East Germans open two offices in the West to issue travel permits and they are promptly closed by the Allies who won't recognize the need of permits. Mayor Willy Brandt is joined by Economics Minister Ludwig Erhardt in a tour of the border area which is comparatively quiet.
HONG KONG IS HIT BY CHOLERA SCARE:
The teeming colony has been struck by one of man's most dreaded diseases - Cholera. Streets are scrubbed and food sanitation laws tightened as more than one million are inoculated in the first three days.
CAN WINTER BE FAR BEHIND?
New York City tests a new snow removal device that promises to get rid of the white stuff twice as fast as old methods. It's a truck with a furnace that quickly makes water out of snow and flushes it down sewers.
THAT ITALIAN LOOK FOR FALL:
Italian designers are continuing their all-out war on Paris as a center for high fashion and they seem to have plenty of ammunition in their new Fall collections. Hemlines are longer and bank accounts thinner...........

EAST BERLINERS JUMP TO FREEDOM:
As the Communist barrier between East and West Berlin grows higher and stronger, the more determined frows the will of East Berliners to escape. Universal-International cameramen record a remarkable document of the escape of East Berliners despite harrassment by East German troops. While attention is diverted, people cut holes in the barbed wire and escape; others drop from fifth floor windows into fire nets - anything for a taste of freedom.
HOMER DERBY: MARIS TIES RUTH'S MARK:
The "Will he or won't he" question is answered by the bat of Roger Maris as he hits his 60th home run to tie Babe Ruth's record set in 1927. He'll be in the record book, but with a footnote: Ruth made his 60-round trippers in 154 games; Maris made his in the 159th game of the expanded schedule.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO
Yes, 25 years ago, there was a not unusual baseball picture - the YANKEES were playing in the World Series against the New York Giants. New York was also in the midst of hectic preparations for its World's Fair and Grover Whalen points out highlights of the great exposition to visiting dignitaries.
Highways were crowded then and a helicopter with folding blades was designed to fly to an airport and then complete its journey to the city streets.
The Germans came up with a switch on the tamden bike - on this one, boy and girl rode side by side on one set of wheels and hoped they could get their books to balance...........

He dashes to the ladder, then up and over to freedom. He has a fiancée in the West, proving that love laughs at locksmiths and border guards. FOOTBALL ARMY.........10 BOSTON COLLEGE.........0 West Point takes on Boston at the Military Academy and after a scoreless first half the Kaydets get the breaks. A recovered fumble leads to an Army field goal and a miscued punt by B.C. gives Army the ball on the thirty yard line and they score again. TEXAS.........27 INDIANA.........12 The Number One rated Texas Longhorns have a fight of it before they can push Indiana into a corner and win. It is not until the end of the first half that Texas gets a comfortable lead...and Indiana throws a few scares into them in the second half before Texas winds up on top at the final whistle.

U. S. DEFIES EAST GERMAN BORDER GUARDS:
Served with an order by East German authorities that all U.S. personnel must show identification before entering that sector of Berlin, American troops answer with the only language the Reds seem to understand- a show of arms. American soldiers escort civilian cars across the border under heavy guard and defy the East Germans to demand identification cards. Meanwhile, the U.S. Berlin Garrison holds elaborate maneuvers in the shadow of the wall erected two months ago. It's a morale booster for the citizens of West Berlin.
WAR OF WORDS:----LANGUAGE RIOT IN BELGIUM:
Flemish-speaking Belgians, 100,000 strong, march on Brussels to demand that their tongue be used more in official government business. They clash with counter-demonstrators and tongues and fists fly...........
