ETHIOPS BUILD BOMB-PROOFS AS FOREIGNERS FLEE CAPITAL
ADDIS ABABA.--The last Italian Consul leaves the country, passing through the city after a fourteen-day trek with his family through the wilderness from the interior. Local Customs officials hold up the refugees for twelve hours before escorting them to the Legation. Troops are rushed to the front in the train used by escaping whites as engineers construct a huge bomb-proof shelter in a hill overlooking the community.
ARMY FIGHTS FOUR-DAY FIRE
MALIBU HILLS, CALIF.--A $10,000,000 brush and forest blaze, one of the most disastrous in the history of Southern California, sweeps over a 100-mile area, whipped by a high wind which balks the efforts of thousands, endangering the costly homes of the motion-picture colony.
