Preferring not to fly, Indonesian cousins Ambar and Suf make a car trip from Jakarta to a family wedding one day away. Ambar's older sister is finally getting married at age 27, and her mother has given nephew Suf the important task of transporting the wedding dinnerware. But what should have taken one day by car takes three as the two young people take detours to explore the exotic countryside while smoking joints and popping pills. Their adventures open honest but painful dialogue between the two throughout the rest of their trip. Through sparring and silence the two are growing closer - perhaps closer than cousins should. 3 Women constitutes Iranian filmmaker Manijeh Hekmat's second feature film and focuses on the lives of three generations of women -- a grandmother, mother, and daughter -- all of whom struggle to come to grips with their past and their identity. Manoo -- a textile specialist who works tirelessly to protect antique rugs from being smuggled out of Iran -- is forced to drop everything when her elderly mother goes missing. Her mother, who is in the early stages of dementia, absconds with one of the rugs Manoo has been trying to protect and journeys to the village from which she was forced to flee as a young woman. Pegah, the youngest of the trio, embarks on her own journey -- a road trip into the desert -- during which time she meets a fellow traveler who is also trying to "find" himself. This beautifully told narrative highlights in a powerful way the human condition in all its strengths and frailties.

Living on the fourth floor of Emniyet Apartment Building, Mr. Mithat has, against all threats he has faced, managed to protect his collection, which he has been working on since years and that has left him with only a small space to live in. Any piece that he searches for to maintain the coherence of the collection could lead him anywhere in Istanbul. For Mr. Mithat, Istanbul is as unlimited as his collection. For Ali, Istanbul is limited with Emniyet Apartment Building and its surroundings. Coming from the village to Istanbul, Ali started to work as concierge in the apartment , and when his daughter contracted asthma due to the humidity in the concierge`s floor, Ali sent his family back to their home in the village for a while until the conditions were ameliorated. When the other tenants of the apartment building, out of fear of an earthquake and with the ambition to own a more valuable building, prefer to have the building demolished to be rebuilt again, Mr. Mithat begins the most challenging of wars he gave for his collection. The building now is the shared destiny of these two men who live alone. Their relationship that begins to keep the collection intact takes on a different level with Mr. Mithat turning Istanbul over to Ali, and it ends where they change each other`s destinies unknowingly.

Two families are employed by a landowner to work on his rice fields. One of them, used to own their own land, but was evicted for being unable to keep up with his hefty loan payments. In the absence of machinery, they plant rice using traditional farming methods and an untrained buffalo. However, the low market prices for rice mean that they have to supplement their income with picking wild mushrooms. They also eat wild frogs, snakes and honeycomb when their income proves to be too meagre to feed the family. In contrast, a neighboring farmer, a retired teacher, farms his land organically and hopes to keep the land fertile with the rice stalks, so that he will always be able to grow food for himself. Thai director Uruphong Raksasad had grown up in the same village where the film is beautifully shot, and had chosen to use local farmers as his actors. Boreak was six when he lost his right arm in a landmine accident. Family members rushed the young Cambodian to a nearby hospital where so-called 'doctors' performed a crude amputation. Burdened with eight other children to feed and unable to cope with the stress of handling a crippled son, Boreak’s parents decided to send him to a home in Siem Reap for young landmine victims. Despite his tragedy, Boreak is ever optimistic and refreshingly lacking in self-pity. Like most children, he is mischievous and inquisitive. He wants to be a wrestler, a rap artist, a football player. And he rarely acts as if his disability is a hindrance. This film looks at the world through Boreak’s eyes, and through the eyes of his good friend, Vannak. It is a world at once bleak and brimming with possibilities. Our camera follows the boys as they explore a rapidly changing Cambodia. And we travel with Boreak from Siem Reap to his hometown near the border with Thailand – an area still studded with millions of landmines; a place where impoverished villagers have little choice but to cultivate the very land that might one day claim their lives. Through Boreak, we also meet Aki Ra, a former child soldier, trained by the Khmer Rouge army to lay landmines. Now in his 30s, Aki Ra is haunted by his violent past and hopes to make amends by giving children like Boreak a home, and by helping remove the millions of landmines still buried in his country. A journey into the minefields shows us just how treacherous Aki Ra’s job is. On this trip, he removes two mines. But there are many more waiting to be found. Waiting to wreak havoc. Ultimately though, the film is a celebration of a child’s tenacity and indomitable will to overcome the odds. Boreak may be a victim, but he doesn't behave like one. His zest for life is infectious, his ability to laugh, a testament to the courage and strength children can have in the face of adversity.
