It's a long life, so you need life-long friends. 'Last Orders' is a funny and moving film about four old friends (Bob Hoskins, Ray Winstone, David Hemmings and Tom Courtenay) and, most of all, the man, Jack Dodds (Michael Caine), whose 'last orders' have set them on a journey. Jack Dodds was an ordinary guy, a butcher, yet a powerful, charismatic man whose life was a crucial heartline for the four men. As they make their trip through beautiful landscapes and a series of pubs, the men are flooded with memories of their life with him. There's 'Lucky' (Hoskins) the gambler, best friend to Jack and admirer of his beautiful wife, Amy (Helen Mirren); Vince (Winstone), Jack's son, a used-car dealer whose resentment towards Jack stems from a wartime secret; Lenny (Hemmings), a one-time boxer who is always looking for a fight; and undertaker Vic (Courtenay), a wise and bemused presence who manages to keep the men on track. Meanwhile, Jack's wife Amy is on a journey of her own to visit their daughter, whom Jack could never love. It's an epic story of a remarkable generation that survived a terrible war, a film about ordinary people which shows that there are no ordinary people. The stories of their early hopes, the children, the affairs, the good times and the bad, reveal to the men and to us that it's your friends who break your heart ... and your friends who mend it.

Kresten (Anders W. Berthelsen) has quickly become a whirlwind success in business in Copenhagen. The morning after his wedding (to the boss' daughter), he receives a distressing phone call—his father has just died. He has trouble explaining this, because he told everyone—including his wife Claire (Sofie Gråbøl)—that he has no living relatives. Returning to his father's dilapidated, run-down farm, he comes across his elder brother, Rud (Jesper Asholt), a mentally handicapped, childlike creature quite unable to fend for himself. While taking care of his father's funeral arrangements, Kresten distracts Rud by pretending to be samurai Toshiro Mifune—a favorite game from their youth. Determined not to let his poverty-stricken past be revealed, Kresten keeps his wife at bay with one lie after another. Eventually, he comes up with a desperate plan: he advertises for a housekeeper to look after his brother. But the arrival of beautiful Liva (Iben Hjejle) only serves to make Kresten's life more complicated. Liva also isn't who she pretends to be. In order to her keep rebellious brother Bjarke (Emil Tarding) in private school, she's been working as a call girl in the city. Now she's on the run from her pimp and a mysterious man who has been threatening her on the phone. With a highly suspicious wife on her way to the farm, a feeble-minded brother in the garden, old enemies in the farmyard, and a lovely lady in the bedroom, Kresten's problems are only beginning... 'Mifune', the third film from the Danish Dogma Collective (preceded by Thomas Vinterberg's 'The Celebration' and Lars Von Trier's 'The Idiots'), is a consistently entertaining dark comedy, which justifiably created a sensation at this year's Berlin Film Festival.

Ann (Sarah Polley) is a hard working mother with two young daughters, a husband (Scott Speedman) who spends more time unemployed than working, a mother (Deborah Harry) with a history of broken dreams and a father who has spent the last ten years in jail. While other women her age are out partying, she spends her nights working as a janitor in a university she could never afford to go to in the daytime. She lives with her family in a tiny trailer in her mother's backyard. Somehow, she keeps her head above water: surviving but not "living." After collapsing one day, she goes in for a medical check-up, where a shy doctor tells her some shocking news. She tells no one, determined to shield her daughters from the truth and at the same time to take control of her life and to make the most out of it. To Don, her eccentric co-worker Laurie, her mother and her kids, Ann chalks her weak pallor up to a case of anemia. In private, Ann makes a list of things she had always wanted to accomplish in her life but never had the time. They range from the mundane to the sublime-from changing her hairstyle and getting fake nails to finding and making love with another man. Suddenly, Ann's life opens up, and the life force that was nascent in this 23 year-old, working-class woman blooms into a quiet yet steely determination. Burdened with her secret but liberated by her new sense of control, Ann's emotional journey leads her to unexpected places and gives her life new meaning: the tender moments, the volatile emotions she must keep inside, the recognition that she has the power to understand, examine and fully live her own life.
