Suspected to be the main financial source for al Qaeda, all assets in the al Barakaat bank, the country’s main bank, were frozen and remittances from workers abroad to their families at home were stopped, which aggravated the confusion and deepened poverty in the nation. When the Cold War ended, the generations that lived through it were relieved to finally vanquish the specter of a mushroom cloud from their minds. But today, thousands of nuclear weapons in the United States and Russia remain on high-alert, still poised to destroy the planet.
In Japan, atomic bomb survivors struggle with nightmarish memories and negative health effects; atomic veterans, down-winders, and atomic workers around the globe also continue to suffer from the effects of radiation exposure. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 may have temporarily damaged the soul of Japan, but has anyone ever taken an account of what the Bomb has done, and continues to do, to the soul of the country that dropped it? How might we alter the soul of a nation in order to truly live without the threat of total destruction?
In a globe-trotting journey through various perspectives on nuclear weapons, filmmaker Bud Ryan takes us from the Peace Museums of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, to the "Nuclear Science" museums of the United States; to the place that birthed the atomic bomb, (and cares for it still) the state of New Mexico, where Ryan now lives.
Featuring former U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz, authors Gar Alperovitz and Jonathan Schell, Japanese bomb survivors, and many others, THE FORGOTTEN BOMB explores our pre-conceptions about nuclear weapons and their history, investigates how they inform our sense of identity and discovers what the Bomber can learn from the Bombed.

Almost a century has passed since the signing of the Treaty of Neuilly near Paris. And every year since that century Bulgarians have made protest demonstrations waved flags, lit torches, and uttered fiery tirades against the selfishness of the great powers, against the selfish greed of our neighbors. And seventy years since the Treaty of Paris. With this film, we want to look more objectively at these events in our recent history, which in no small measure determined the uneasy and not very happy fate of Bulgaria in the 20th century. Through the eyes of a fictional person who witnessed the signing of both the Treaty of Nice and the Treaty of Paris in 1947.

Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of the opposition to the military regime in Burma, and Dr. Cynthia Maung are two strong, brave and socially-committed Burmese women, who have been fighting for years to change things in Burma. They have been awarded the International Catalonia Prize. We look at the personalities and the work of the two women who have devoted their lives trying to gain freedom for their people. Aung San Suu Kyi has been under house arrest...
Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of the opposition to the military regime in Burma, and Dr. Cynthia Maung are two strong, brave and socially-committed Burmese women, who have been fighting for years to change things in Burma. They have been awarded the International Catalonia Prize. We look at the personalities and the work of the two women who have devoted their lives trying to gain freedom for their people. Aung San Suu Kyi has been under house arrest for 18 years without having ever been put on trial. She cannot make phone calls, receive visitors or use the Internet. Her only contact with the outside world is the radio. She was not able to attend the International Catalonia Prize awards ceremony in just the same way as she was prevented from going to Stockholm to accept the Nobel Peace Prize. The report also shows the work of Dr. Cynthia Maung, who fled from Burma, as did tens of thousands of people, after the first major popular uprising against the military regime in 1989. Dr. Maung opened a small clinic on the Thai-Burmese border, which has become an important healthcare centre treating the poor and illegal immigrants.
