Ships of the U. S. 7th Fleet cover the evacuation of the Tachen Islands. Red China has been warned interference will mean war--and there's no incident as Nationalist soldiers and 14,000 civilians are loaded aboard transports for the trip to Formosa. HOTEL FIRE
CHICAGO--In sub-zero temperatures, a cheap hotel becomes an inferno, trapping at least 25 of 245 tenants in their 60c a night cubicles. It's the second worst hotel fire in the city's history.
