An extremely powerful film showing the terrible risks that Africans will take to get to The Promised Land. Juan Medina, an Argentine photographer, arrived in Spain twenty years ago. Medina was looking for a better life and decided to settle in Fuerteventura, attracted by a tourist slogan portraying it as 'The Tranquil Isle.' He could not have guessed then that he would be an eye witness to the tragic exodus of Africans to Europe. Over the last ten years, 32,000 Africans have landed on the coast of the Canary Islands in makeshift boats. Many have died in the attempt, drowned in the 100 or so kilometers of seas separating the islands from the African mainland. One night in November 2004, Juan was on board a Spanish police patrol vessel. A drifting craft was spotted full of immigrants. But the makeshift boat capsized: 11 people drowned and 29 were rescued.

This film exposes the hypocrisy of the Western nations which continue to support Pol Pot, despite the atrocities of his regime. Not only has Pol Pot been allowed to occupy Cambodia's seat in the United Nations, but the Western nations have been secretly selling them weapons for use in their civil war. Despite the loss of a fifth of their population, the resilient Cambodians have made significant strides to rebuild their society. But they fear the threat of a second Holocaust. College Adult

Gaining rare access to the Palestinian militias, Correspondent focuses on the nexus of 'terrorist' street fighters in three West Bank towns and visits a bomb-making factory hidden in the Jenin refugee camp where 'suicide belts' and explosives are made. Aren't the militants worried about Israeli intelligence? 'Don't make me laugh!' says one. 'While Jenin was under siege, individuals in Jenin were carying out martyrdom operations inside Israel.'

How do the Israeli military decide when to take a Palestinian terrorist alive, and when to kill him? Granted rare access to the Israeli military machine, Correspondent follows two Israeli commando units to reveal the criteria they work by. Often it's a matter of a few miles and a few hours between the terrorist cell - the engineer, organiser, suicide bomber - and the targeted Israeli town. Israelis call such targets 'ticking bombs', and they are the highest priority. The rest of the world may debate whether military operations slow down the cycle of violence or just cause more bloodshed; the Israeli military don't have the time.

The border that runs between Tijuana and San Diego is the most heavily militarized border between "friendly" countries anywhere in the world. Since 1994 when the U.S. instituted Operation Gatekeeper, an average of one person a day has died crossing into the U.S. The policy has been condemned by the UN Commissioner of Human Rights, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. This poignant film puts a human face on a tragedy that occurs daily. First we visit a small village in Oaxaca where more than half the men have emigrated to the United States to send money home. From here we follow the story of one young woman who made the journey to follow her husband, but died of dehydration in the desert. Then the film goes to Tijuana where thousands of people have desperately attempted the crossing, only to be thrown back. We learn of the hardships imposed by heat and thirst and abusive border guards. Finally, we hear first hand from a border guard, a human rights activist, and a citizen who actually goes into the desert each weekend to provide water for the fugitives. This is a memorable portrait of people who risk everything to come to "the land of plenty" --- and often lose this gamble. College Adult
