During his air force career, he began to dress as a woman - first at home, and then in public. For the last five years before his operation, Benjy dressed as a woman full-time. However, Benjy was a family man. His wife Debbie, appears to have been totally supportive of his decision to have a sex change operation and become Bridget. Their three sons, however, a fourteen year old and twelve-year old identical twins, did not take easily to having their father become a tall blonde with stiletto heels and an almost comic sense of the female. Confused and angry, they start getting into trouble. The film finds no easy answers as it sets the freedom of individual choice against family well being. College Adult

This intensely personal film documents lesbian videomaker Pam Walton's attempt to reconcile with her long estranged father. It is also her search for what "family" means to her. After her mother's death and her father's remarriage, her father Rus Walton broke off ties with his daughters. He evolved into a right wing fundamentalist and a "family values" activist. In his writing he considered invoking the death penalty for practicing homosexuals. Although Pam surrounded herself with a new lesbian family of nurturing and supportive friends, she yearned for her blood ties. Despite the emotional cost, she made repeated attempts to connect with him. This emotional saga is a journey through uncharted "family" terrain, evoking suspense, pain and wisdom. Told in the form of a video diary, Family Values shows how the longing for parental acceptance can never be extinguished. College Adult

As many as 60,000 people are uncomfortable with the sex they were born into (gender dysphoria). Gary, a 39-year-old transsexual, has been convinced since childhood that he is a woman trapped in a male body. At age 36, Gary decided to begin the extraordinary process of changing his sex. Shot over three years, this compassionate yet unsentimental film follows Gary's transformation into Gabi. Before he can be accepted for sex-reassignment surgery, Gary mustprove that he can successfully live and work as a woman, 24 hours a day, for at least one year. We see Gary sorting out his masculine and feminine traits, undergoing facial plastic surgery, electrolysis, hormone therapy, and psychological counseling. A lively discussion among Gabi's co-workers raises questions about the very nature of masculinity and femininity. Gabi attends a transsexual support group, and wrestles throughout the film with religious conflicts. By the end of the film she reconciles with her mother, and attends her high school reunion. Metamorphosis raises profound questions about gender stereotypes as Gary's fantasies collide with the realities of living as a woman. Watching Gary make conscious choices of what is appropriate behavior for a woman today challenges the audience to confront personal biases and expectations of what men and women are supposed to be. This is a charming documentary about adolescent girls who had to deal with an unexpected complication in their suburban life. Their mother suddenly dissolved her marriage and then told the girls in strictest confidence that she was a lesbian. This secret made them feel isolated from their friends and especially from their father who was not privy to this information. The oldest sister, Juliette, made this funny and poignant video which reveals their coming to terms with their mother's new sexual identity. It captures their initial shock, embarrassment and anger. They tried to make sense out of their parents' former life together. " Did you ever love daddy?", they want to know. But as time went on, the sisters relaxed about their mother's new lifestyle. They understood that now she was true to herself and happier. When the ban of secrecy was lifted their friends were accepting, and even thought their mom was "cool." They came to realize that their own heterosexuality was not threatened. Now they are activists for gay rights and march proudly with their mother. High School College Adult

From the producers of the award-winning Last Call at Maud's, comes this ground breaking exploration of the gender gap between gays and lesbians. Politically united against global homophobia, they are poles apart on many life issues. Oddly enough, their struggle of male versus female mirrors many traditional conflicts inherent to straight relationships. The gay and lesbian community is not immune to gender conditioning. Here is the classic battle of the sexes from a totally new perspective, leavened with humor. The film looks at the issues around male domination versus female submission; promiscuousness versus commitment; exaltation of the body versus the spirit; AIDS versus breast cancer support. We hear about the subtle chauvinism by gay activists who excluded lesbians from their political and social life, especially in the conformist 1950's. Now, however, both sides seem willing to discuss these differences openly. Individuals involved in this dialogue include Martin Duberman, Barney Frank, Barbara Gittings, Simon LeVay, Camille Paglia and others. This lively film is sure to rouse discussion. A presentation of the Independent Television Service with funding provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. College Adult

Dr. Money is well known for his research on what makes a person become heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual or transsexual. In this film he presents his ideas on the anatomical and biological factors that steer one towards masculinity or femininity, sorting them out from the historical, cultural and sociological influences. Sex and Money shows people in various stages of transsexual transformation. We see the adaptations they have made with their families and partners, and note that they seem able to lead rather conventional lives. College Adult

Why would a girl swear to stay a virgin? What kind of tradition sanctions this form of self-denial? In a mountainous area of Albania, an ancestral code of laws -- observed to this day -- placed women in the bottom rank of society. It dictates that "a woman is a sack, made to endure." A woman cannot choose her husband, buy or sell property or express herself politically. For centuries, on a bride's wedding day, her father gave the groom two bullets, to be used to kill his daughter in case she misbehaved and dishonored the clan. But there is a loophole. The ancient laws allowed certain women known as "Sworn Virgins" to take an oath in front of their clan, announcing their intention to remain virgins. This fascinating film reports on several unusual Albanian women who dress, act, talk, drink, shoot and are respected as real men. It's not a matter of sexual orientation, and there's no surgery involved. The villagers in this area simply accept the fact that some women want to live like men because they like their freedom. They prefer to manage their own lives; they do not want to marry and have children. One such virgin, the oldest of six daughters, took over the running of the family when their parents died. Another became an accountant, saying: "I am neither wife nor mother. I loved working, I did everything for myself." College Adult

One of the underlying objections to gay marriages is the concern about them raising children. Will the children be raised to be gay themselves? Is there a risk of sexual abuse? What about gender role models? We Are Family takes a look at what life is really like in homosexual families, with the focus on parenting and the well being of the children. In one family, two gay fathers tell of their efforts to create a secure environment for their 16-year-old foster son who was on the road to delinquency. In another household, two lesbian mothers have helped their adopted 11-year-old boy overcome the emotional trauma of disability and early neglect. In the third family, we hear how two adolescent daughters have accepted their father's homosexuality. By seeing how much these parents have to offer their children, we realize that good parenting is independent of sexual orientation. College Adult
