PLAINS STATES--Winter's first blizzard cripples many Western states, paralyzing transportation and marooning hundreds. Thirteen are known dead, While in the East, it's "Spring" again (temporarily) with the thermometer hitting the 70's.

COLUMBUS--The Wolverines fight off a determined Buckeye team, absorb an early 3-0 deficit and then go on to score twice through the air, to close the books on a second straight unbeaten season, 13-3.

DALLAS--The Southern Methodist Mustangs beat Baylor with an ace and win a Cotton Bowl bid on a 13-6 decision. Kyle Rote is the ace in the hole that licks the Bears, scoring on two thrilling touchdown romps.
