Fifteen Marines and Navy Corpsmen recount their journey from enlistment through the 77-day Siege of Khe Sanh during the Vietnam War. One of the longest sieges in the history of American warfare, 6000 Marines were surrounded by elements of three crack North Vietnamese divisions. They could see the NVA working in their trenches, and endured relentless rocket and artillery fire. Still today the Khe Sanh experience simmers just beneath their skin. Meet the men who were just boys in 1968, and travel with them through their ferocious experience in that wet and isolated battleground, fighting fear and the enemy only to return home to a nation at odds with this controversial war.

Finding new and previously unexplained evidence, Francis Pryor overturns the idea that Britain reverted to a state of anarchy and disorder after the Romans left in 410 AD. Instead of doom and gloom Francis discovers a continuous culture that assimilated influences from as far a field as the Middle East and Constantinople. Through scrutinizing the myth of King Arthur to find out what was really going on when the Romans left, Francis is confronted by evidence that confounds traditional views of the 'Dark Ages'. There was also no invasion of bloodthirsty Anglo Saxons, rampaging across the countryside. With new archaeological evidence Francis discovers a far more interesting story.

Filmed in the face of enormous political and geographical obstacles, Burden on the Land is a comprehensive look at Africa's future as it faces the 21st century. It addresses the root causes of famine and suggests reasons why development efforts in Africa have been so disappointing. Examining the sub-Saharan countries - Mozambique, Malawi, Rwanda, Burundi, Zaire, Ivory Coast, Mali, Ethiopia and Uganda - the documentary clarifies the conflicts and interrelated issues of politics, health, environment, and culture. When the colonial powers left Africa, the political vacuum was filled by authoritarian regimes whose armies continue to keep them in power. Frequent tribal wars keep countless people refugees, fleeing from one nation to another. Despite the efforts of international relief agencies, the vast number of refugees have depleted the host countries of resources. The film shows that despite the overwhelming problems there are small successes that improve the quality of life - dams, food processing, reforestation, road building, irrigation, and animal husbandry. But basically, it proposes that Africa's future depends on developing an infrastructure while maintaining the integrity of village life. College Adult

The transformation of China into a global superpower raises some of the most challenging questions of our time – and this revealing series seeks out the answers. Will this turn out to be China’s century or will the Red Dragon crash and burn? Niall Ferguson travels through this vast country to find out how a fifth of humanity can live under a Communist system of government with a capitalist economy when, according to all the laws of history, it should fall apart. Held together for more than 2000 years, firstly by imperial rule and now by an imperious Communist Party, what does China stand for? Ferguson talks to the people who know – including its new billionaires, survivors of Chairman Mao’s regime, ardent young nationalists and those defending China’s rural poor.

As the kings of England and the kings of France fought for possession of the crown of France, The Hundred Years’ War would become the longest and the bloodiest conflict in medieval history, replacing the feudal order with an order of nations and propelling France and England into the modern age. Appearing amidst the splendour of the medieval world, cultural historian Dr Nina Ramirez takes viewers on a journey through 116 years of riotous, plague-ridden warfare, exploring how, as the effects of warfare reverberated in every aspect of artistic, cultural and religious life, The Hundred Years’ War would give birth to two distinctive national identities representing the final divorce between France and England – effects of which can still be seen in rivalries today.
In this first episode, Dr Janina Ramirez explores the medieval Anglo-French conflict. Edward III crushes the flower of French knighthood at the Battle of Crecy.
