Born in Scotland in 1947, Martin Walker has made a literary memorial to his adopted home, the French region of Périgord. His successful crime novels about the sympathetic village policeman "Bruno" play in this region and treat beside the criminal cases the rich history and the culinary specialties of the Périgord. The graduate historian and economist worked for 25 years as a journalist and foreign correspondent for the British newspaper "The Guardian". He has authored numerous nonfiction books, including on the Cold War, perestroika, Mikhail Gorbachev and Bill Clinton.
