The appearance of Dr Kersley and his commissioning consortia plans hints at the changes ahead for K2. Den enjoys her new-found treats, nice Damaris has her feet firmly under the desk, Kim makes a bold career move and Pippa deals with a pressing legal issue. Vag-At research under way, Dr Moore has plenty to take her mind off marital disharmony until a nasty online surprise brings her crashing back down to ground. But it's her cafetiere, brought in from home, that steals the show courtesy of Doris and a mix-up with the dementia care assistant.

Kim finds help from an unexpected quarter, while Hilary is a man on a mission as the different designations of waste offer him a way back onto the ward. Megan is having trouble drumming up support for the forthcoming strike, while Pippa benefits from previously unseen talents hidden away on K2. The lights go down on another shift at K2 leaving Mrs Dethick in the dark and Den in a dark place. With Megan moody and Pippa scornful, Kim reluctantly turns to Damaris for help with her studies and sparks off an unexpected alliance.

Over six shifts we watch as the staff cope with mounting bureaucracy and shine a light on the everyday.Series 3, Episode 4A tough day on the ward. Kim has given up smoking and is feeling the effects, Den has a secret she's trying to hide, Pippa has a moment or two, and Hilary is out on the prowl looking for cuts. Matters come to a head with the arrival of a private patient and the search for a side ward, with Dr Kersley applying the pressure. With accommodation on the agenda Den finds herself homeless courtesy of overcrowding at Kim's, and a hapless attempt to bully a solution results in Kim having no mentor and Pippa in a rage. With a coma patient to shift and a makeshift office to dismantle, the walls are closing in on Sister Flixter. Shift ended and Kim dispatched, it's time to call in a favour from an unlikely source.

Damaris has gone, Megan is angry, Den is playing games and Mrs Dethick is back on the ward.On a positive note, Hansley has turned out to be something of a star turn and the Vag-At is going from strength to strength - at least it was, until a mix up with the oncology Christmas card competition leads to complications. A delicate situation needs careful handling, as a funny turn with the coma patient has unexpected consequences.Back on Red Bay, there's bad news for Mrs Dethick and a bittersweet moment as Pippa again defuses a tricky situation and still finds time to settle up with Hansley.

Manual Jordan (Billy Bob Thorton) is a man caught between two worlds: the one which existed before he was incarcerated, and the one into which he's released 22 years later. A yellowing newspaper photograph of 16-year-old convience store clerk Abner Easley - the boy Manual killed in a robbery gone terribly wrong - has stared down at him from the wall of his cell for more than two decades. Manual feels that his life sentence is just and deserved, so when - much to his surprise and even somewhat against his will - he's released, the aimless boy is now a lost man. Floating through the barely familiar wintry landscape of his childhood neighborhood, Manual is like a ghost hungry for atonement, seemingly alienated from everything except for his terrible memories of the day which changed not only his life, but that of so many others as well. He glides through this strange new world a man apart, his wraith-like aspect and deeply formal, barely articulate manner guaranteed to ensure solitude. Almost by accident - or fate - Manual is drawn into the life of an inner city community center run by the relentlessly tough, caring, and enigmatic pastor Miles Evans (Morgan Freeman). Miles offers Manual work in return for a room, and once again, Abner Easley's photo is prominently placed, reminding Manual to come to terms with his crimes, his past, his future, himself. While Manual tries to confront his past, Sofia Mellinger (Kirsten Dunst) is unable to deal with her present. A beautiful and privileged wreck of a young woman bent on self-destruction, she constantly requires Manual's reluctant assistnace to survive the short trip from the hip nightclub across the street to the safety of the community house next door. Ultimately Manual seeks to reconcile his painful past when he pursues a relationship with Adele Easley (Holly Hunter), the older sister of the boy he killed. Yet he finds himself unable to confess his true identity to her, especially as their relationship deepens. When Adele's troubled teenage son Abner - named after the younger brother she loved and lost - becomes enrolled in his own cycle of violence, Manual sees what might be one opportunity for true redemption. Twenty-two years of haunted introspection have taught Manual a brutal truth passed down since Cain slew Abel: the only one who truly understands the value of a human life ... is the one who has taken that life away.

Dôlè offers a Gabonese perspective on the global crisis facing today's youth. With familial and societal structures crumbling, young people are increasingly thrown back for support on each other and an all-encompassing international pop culture. This film reveals that, whether in Libreville or in our own inner cities and suburbs the underlying causes of youthful disaffection can be remarkably similar. With Ça twiste à Poponguine, Dôlè provides one of the most affectionate and affecting portraits of African youth poised precariously on the cusp of modernity. Winner of the first-place Gold Tanit at the 2000 Carthage Film Festival, It has already been widely compared to François Truffaut's iconic coming of age film -- a kind of "Le quatre cents coups" in Gabon.
Dôlè begins not with plot but with performance. On a rooftop overlooking the city, in a scene which could happen anywhere, a group of young men vent their frustrations in instantly recognizable rhythms. Performing only for themselves, they aggressively search for an identity through the universal patois of hip-hop. When they plot a robbery to obtain one of the necessary accoutrements of that lifestyle, what they call un ghettoblaster, one cannot help but wonder if the image is reflecting reality or has begun to determine the reality. This begs the question: What does it mean to be "real" if this is essentially a pose, one stance among many for approaching a particular reality?
