"Anonymously Yours" is such a film. This extraordinary documentary on sex-trafficking in Southeast Asia interweaves four young women's stories to reveal an institution that enslaves as many as 40 million women worldwide. Shot clandestinely in Myanmar (formerly Burma), "Anonymously Yours" is often shocking, frequently harrowing, and always compelling. Through the brutal honesty of the four women's stories the film exposes the commonplace bartering and selling of women and the cycles of poverty that enslave them. From the back rooms of teashops and restaurants to the lounges of five-star hotels, the Far East sex trade thrives on the routine merchandising of girls and women for the sexual escape and pleasure of men from all cultures. Through their unforgettable and poignant testimonies, these four sex workers introduce Western audiences to the widespread corruption and staggering poverty that are the status quo in much of the world -- and the primary causes behind one of the fastest-growing and most vicious industries on earth: the sale of human beings. This is the colorful story of Mustafa Kemal, later known as Ataturk, the controversial and charismatic leader of Turkey after the first World War. The documentary traces the rise of modern Turkey, which acts as a bridge between Europe and the Middle East. Ataturk was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize even though his rise to power came from his role in the First World War. He established peace on the borders of Turkey in marked contrast to the expansionist old Ottoman Empire. His first and greatest reform was to secularize the country in order to bring it into the modern world. Under his leadership, women were emancipated, certain minorities were guaranteed equal rights, and the Latin alphabet replaced of Arabic script. Along with rare archival footage there are commentaries from experts such as Prof. Vamik Volkan and Prof. Geoffrey Lewis, and interviews with his adopted daughter, Ulku, with Suleyman Demirel, President of the Turkish Republic, and with the Patriach of the Orthodox church. An architect and decidedly Western-skewed fellow, he is troubled by the inability of the Americans to maintain a stable occupation. This army has undermined the American plan of an orderly political process leading to elections. Instead, it has created havoc. Pax slowly and sadly closes his laptop at the end of the film. The RCMP rounded up thousands of people it considered fascist sympathizers. Seven hundred of them were held for up to three years in internment camps, most of them at Petawawa, Ontario. None were ever charged with a criminal offence. Remarkably, the former internees are not bitter as they look back on the way their own country treated them.

From August 1 - October 2, 1944 the Nazis were challenged by an underground army of irregular volunteers - the vast majority barely adult. The Poles wanted to free their capital and greet the advancing Red Army as a free people. They counted on help from the Allies but this did not come. 200,000 people, one-third of Warsaw's population perished, 15,000 resistance fighters were taken prisoner-of-war, and 80% of Warsaw was destroyed. Battle for Warsaw '44 contains unique testimony from Polish, British, and German participants. Hugh Lunghi, a member of British Military Mission to Moscow, speaks for the first time about the British involvement at the time of the Uprising and pilots from the RAF and Red Army Air Force describe their airlifts to Warsaw. Included is the extraordinary film shot by the Poles themselves who used photo reporters and a special film unit to document the uprising. Today, two decades after the collapse of communism, hundreds of thousands of people gather at the Warsaw military cemetery on August lst to mark the outbreak of the insurrection. The commemoration in Poland was considered an act of defiance during the communist era, which government authorities monitored but dared not stop.
