As the composer Max Richter suggests, "The piece is part of the musical landscape, and a part of my daily life. I hear it in supermarkets, and it's always turning up in TV ads." He has approached his "Vivaldi Recomposed"-project as an admirer of Vivaldi, but no less importantly, as a composer. "Anything that a composer writes is part of a conversation with music that has gone before," he says. Max Richter's co-conspirator in the documentary on this project is Daniel Hope, the British violinist; and the orchestra "l'arte del mondo" with violinist Werner Ehrhardt, its artistic director.

"I want to wake this instrument from hibernation", he says. From growing up in war-torn Yugoslavia, discovering a battered guitar in his parents' bedroom, Heartstrings tells the story of his love affair with the guitar, taking it to concert halls around the world and restoring it to its rightful place in the pantheon of classical music. The documentary was filmed throughout 2012, the breakthrough year on the concert stage for Miloš with sold-out debut performances and tours around the word, and charts the guitarist's story to date.

On the occasion of Penderecki's 80th birthday in 2013, this film portraits the artist with a comprehensive 'work in progress' documentary: despite his growing age, Penderecki is still an unflinching and active composer and conductor. For one year, the author Anna Schmidt has been studying this world-famous artist, speaking also with high-carat companions: Anne-Sophie Mutter, Julian Rachlin and Janine Jansen, Mariss Jansons and Lorin Maazel; Johnny Greenwood ("Radiohead") and Andrzej Wajda. The film follows Penderecki from Kraków to Munich, from Vienna to Leipzig, and on various occasions to his country estate in Luslawice. And throughout, the composer reflects on the meteoric beginning to his career, unexpected turning points in his life and ingenious ideas. Thoughts, dialogues, extracts from his music and film scores, encounters and the natural world all condense to create a fascinating, multi-layered portrait including also very rare archive material.

Paul Wittgenstein, Austrian concert pianist, loses his arm at the age of twenty seven, while serving as an officer in the First World War. Nonetheless, he is set on continuing his career. Major composers, such as Ravel and Strauss write concerts for him, from which he gains international acclaim. Forced to leave Austria by the Nazis, he dies in New York in 1961. Paul’s father, Karl Wittgenstein millionaire and chief Austrian 'iron and steel baron', determined to have his five sons follow in his footsteps and become industrialists, he does not permit them to pursue artistic careers. Ultimately, he will pay for his intransigence with the lives of his three eldest children who escape their father’s authority by committing suicide. Finally, Karl Wittgenstein allows his two remaining sons the freedom to choose their own profession. Ludwig, the younger brother of Paul, turns to philosophy. Paul Wittgenstein’s biography is an extraordinary life-affirming story. It is the tale of a man who perseveres in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles and prevails.
