Across Gender’ is an ethnographic film about the negotiation of visibility of trans people in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Focusing on personal experiences of different people who ‘cross gender’ we follow: LGBT-activists, drag performers, and students of an Islamic school for transwomen and learn about their experiences and views about Indonesian society.Through different people and spaces, ‘Across Gender’ gives a varied image of trans people in Yogyakarta and challenges stereotypes. The stories are documented in the midst of anti-LGBT sentiments and actions in early 2016 illustrate how the negotiation of visibility is an ongoing and difficult process. The film was made as part of the master’s program in visual anthropology at Leiden University, the Netherlands, and is based on two months of ethnographic fieldwork.

Boston landed at Honolulu in support of a treasonous coup d'etat against the constitutional sovereign of the Hawaiian Kingdom, Queen Lili'uokalani. The event was described by U.S. President Grover Cleveland as "an act of war." Stylized re-enactments, archival photos and film, political cartoons, historic quotes, and presentations by Hawaiian scholars tell Hawaiian history through Hawaiian eyes.
Act of War: The Overthrow of the Hawaiian Nation was broadcast on Hawai'i Public Television in 1993 during the centennial year of the overthrow of Queen Lili'uokalani, a landmark year in the Hawaiian movement for sovereignty and independence.
In that same year, the U.S. Congress passed a joint resolution admitting the illegal taking of Hawai'i and formally apologizing to the Hawaiian people.

Acting Like a Thief is about a Chhara tribal theatre group in Ahmedabad, India. Starting with the arrest of playwright DaKxin Bajrange (Chhara), the documentary reveals how the Budhan Theatre has transformed the lives of adults and children within the community. Chhara tribals were notified as "natural criminals" by the British in 1871 and imprisoned in a labor camp in Ahmedabad. After Indian independence, they were de-notified, but the stigma of being a "born criminal" follows them to this day. The Budhan Theatre was inspired by the activism work of Mahasweta Devi.

For many years I dreamed of making a movie about my generation at the crossroads of two eras. In Brezhnev's time we went to school -- we had to tie a red pioneer tie around our necks and render the young pioneers' salute. My peers and I graduated from school in the ambiguous time of Perestroika. A few years later, as 20-year-olds bred on socialist ideals and having witnessed the collapse of the 'super-power', we were absolutely unprepared to plunge into a new epoch, up to this day undefined by historians. The characters of my film, who I know from childhood, are of the same age as me. 20 years ago three of them immigrated to Holland and France and the remaining three stayed in Moscow. They are all very different, with different fates, professions and lifestyles, and the only thing that unites them is a common Soviet childhood and the undeniable difficulties while adjusting to a new time. 20 years later is the perfect moment to conclude and analyze the past, as well as to think about present-day Russia and its future. We have been able to address all of it and to transfer our reflections in the interviews of our characters.
