The most devastating fire in the history of the French Riviera sweeps over 32,000 acres, driving thousands of tourists and residents to refuge on the beaches. Along with residential areas, there were many camping and trailer sites in the region that were swept by the flames as campers fled leaving tents and trailers behind. Many landmarks, including the famed Grand Hotel, were destroyed.
JUMP FOR CHARITY:
The people of Thailand are flocking to a series of air shows that are being staged to raise money for schools. Teams of United States and Thai chutists are'jumping'at the chance to take part in the undertaking that has already raised funds to build 33 schools in rural areas.

NATION MOURNS KEFAUVER: Senator Estes Kefauver was catapulted into nation-wide fame through the racket investigations he headed in 1951. His probing of the underworld led the next year to the Democratic convention where he sought the Presidential nomination. He lost out to Adlai Stevenson then and in 1956 was Vice-Presidential nominee. Senator Kefauver had a long and honorable career. His colleagues called him a public servant of the utmost integrity. SPORTS NEW MARKS SET AT AAU MEN'S SWIM MEET: At the National AAU men's swimming meet in Chicago there's a 17-Year-old whiz who swims away with all honors. Don Schollander, a California high school student wins the 200 meter, free-style with a new record of 1:59. He also wins the 400 and loses the 1500 by three-tenths of a second. In diving from the 10-meter board, Lieutenant Tom Gompf, a fighter pilot, wins the gold medal in some high-flying aerial maneuvers.

YELLOWSTONE QUAKE
A ripple in the earth's crust brings devastation and terror to one of America's favorite vacationlands. One of the worst earthquakes of this century in America centers on southwest Montana, near Yellowstone Park. The top of 8,000-foot mountain, 50 million tons of earth and rock thunders down in a titanic landslide - directly across a forest campground, taking a heavy toll and trapping hundreds between the heaped rock and a weakened dam upstream. Air Force helicopters evacuate survivors and carry on a grim hunt for victims.
KANSAS CITY GASOLINE BLAST:
In Kansas City, Kansas, firemen in a desperate 6-hour battle with a raging gasoline fire that starts at a bulk service station, and touches off huge storage tanks, sending flames hundreds of feet in the air and rocking the city! Blazing gasoline deluges firefighters!
ATLANTIC FLEET MANEUVERS:

The Unites States tops Britain, six-one, for the seventh consecutive victory in the Wightman Cup series. Nancy Richey defeats Virginia Wade in the deciding match.
WATER SKIING
The annual European Water Skiing Championships brings out the best in this spectacular sport. Jeanette Stewart-Wood of England wins in the Women's division with a triple-tie, France, Italy, and Switzerland....among the men.
"JERICHO" PREMIERE
Universal's technicolor western, "Rough Night In Jericho," has a twin world premiere in Fort Worth and Dallas. Star George Peppard, a beauty contest, stagecoach race, and mock holdup all add to the glamour and excitement of the opening.
