These handwritten research notes on an unlined note card, titled "Twin heroes -- ??", compare three American Indian myths using this theme. "See Transformation" is also noted at the head of the card. The first is a myth of the Yokuts, as related in "Indian Myths of South Central California," A. L. Kroeber, University of California Publications: American Archaeology and Ethnology, Vol. 4, p. 209. In this story, two boys go to earth and transform people who have no exits [e.g., mouths] by cutting. The second story, as related in "The Pima Indians," Frank Russell, Report of the Bureau of American Ethnology, Vol. 26, p. 245, is about a grandmother and her grandson and daughter-in-law. They quarrel, she whips him, and he and his mother turn into saguaros. The third story is a myth of the Shivwits [Southern Paiute] about "Owl's Wife." Blue Hawk and Jay Hawk have unfeathered arrows; therefore, Coyote mocks them. But their arrow, when Coyote tries it, kills all of his people. Undated.
