Many members of the SA, including its leader Ernst Röhm, were demanding that the Nazi party carry out its socialist agenda and that the SA take over the army. Hitler could not afford to annoy businessmen or the army, so the SS (Hitler's personal bodyguards) murdered around 400 members of the SA, including Röhm, along with a number of Hitler's other opponents like the previous Chancellor, von Schleicher.
This destroyed all opposition to Hitler within the Nazi Party and gave power to the brutal SS. It also showed the rest of the world what a tyrant Hitler was. This removed any internal Nazi Party opposition to Hitler.

Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of the opposition to the military regime in Burma, and Dr. Cynthia Maung are two strong, brave and socially-committed Burmese women, who have been fighting for years to change things in Burma. They have been awarded the International Catalonia Prize. We look at the personalities and the work of the two women who have devoted their lives trying to gain freedom for their people. Aung San Suu Kyi has been under house arrest for 18 years without having ever been put on trial. She cannot make phone calls, receive visitors or use the Internet. Her only contact with the outside world is the radio. She was not able to attend the International Catalonia Prize awards ceremony in just the same way as she was prevented from going to Stockholm to accept the Nobel Peace Prize. The report also shows the work of Dr. Cynthia Maung, who fled from Burma, as did tens of thousands of people, after the first major popular uprising against the military regime in 1989. Dr. Maung opened a small clinic on the Thai-Burmese border, which has become an important healthcare centre treating the poor and illegal immigrants.
