As a new type of non-metallic mineral resource, serpentine has attracted more and more attentions. Serpentine mineral resources are abundant in China, with more than 5 billion tons reserves proved. However, most of them have not been used adequately except for some special serpentine, such as serpentine jade and chrysotile. The overview for status quo of serpentine utilization consists of the distribution, chemical compositions, crystal structure of serpentine, mature but not economic applications and some development of high-value utilization research. It is expected to provide some references for deeper research and promoting its applications.

Concrete structures subjected to impact have shown a higher sensitivity to develop a brittle shear failure than under quasi-static loading. The differences between the dynamic and static behavior are due to the strain-rate dependence of material properties and the presence of inertial forces. Both effects should be accounted for when performing analyses of structures under impact. In the present paper, a simplified three-degree-of-freedom model is used to understand the improved impact response of reinforced concrete when steel fibers are added to the concrete matrix. The analysis shows that the higher capacity for energy absorption of fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) may avoid local shear failure when the FRC is able to develop strain hardening prior to the peak strength. Various analyses are presented in order to understand the influence of different types and contents of fibers.

Glass waste is currently produced almost in all developed countries. It is the silicate based waste material which after suitable treatment has found application in many industries and therefore some types of waste glass belong to progressive secondary raw materials. However, the use of this silicate waste material which differ on the basis of an initial use of the glass in its physical and mechanical properties has not been fully explored in the field of building industry - the production of building materials. The replacement of the common filler - quartz sand in the polymer concrete (PC) could be one of the effective possibilities of the utilization of different type of waste glass in the building industry. Mainly for this reason, this work deals with the experimental examining the possibility of using various types of waste glass in the polymer concrete based on epoxy resin.

Utilizing Pro-cast software, the whole vacuum arc remelting process of high-alloy bearing steel ingot (the diameter was 160 mm and the high was 600 mm) was simulated. And moving face quality and moving boundary conditions were added to the simulation. Purposes of the simulation were to explore the influence of smelting powers on the temperature field, pool shape and solidification microstructure in vacuum arc remelting process. The depth of molten bath gradually increased and stabilized finally and the pool shape transferred from flat to funnel. When smelting power increased, the depth of molten pool became deeper and the width of mushy zone slightly reduced; the size of primary dendrite and secondary dendrite spacing increased significantly; the percentage and size of columnar crystals also increased. A reasonable power-time cure was given to guide industrial melting after simulation, the size of molten pool morphology and microstructure were controlled in an ideal range under the reasonable cure. The simulated grain morphology agreed well with the experimental pickling result.

The recent development of new lightweight sheet metal materials, like advanced high-strength steels or aluminium alloys, in combination with an increasing component complexity provides new challenges to the numerical material modelling in the FEM based process design. An auspicious approach to improve the quality of the numerical results - most notably in springback analysis - is the modelling of the so called Bauschinger effect achieved through implementation of kinematic hardening models. Within this paper the influence of the stress state and the level of pre-strain on the numerical simulation result of the advanced high strength steel DP-K45/78+Z will be analysed. For this purpose, a parameter identification of the kinematic hardening law according to Chaboche and Rousselier is performed at different pre-strains on the basis of experimental data from tension-compression tests as well as cyclic shear tests. Finally, the identified parameters are validated in a comparison between numerical and experimental results of a cyclic bending test.

The CPCs from natural sources has the benefit that they inherit some of the properties of the raw materials such as the macro-and micro-pore structure, optimal composition, similar morphology etc., as well as the advantage of unlimited world wide availability at a very low raw...
The development of the calcium phosphate ceramics (CPC) using natural materials such as coral, eggshell, bovine bone, fish bone etc., from Indian origin have been reviewed. The CPCs from natural sources has the benefit that they inherit some of the properties of the raw materials such as the macro-and micro-pore structure, optimal composition, similar morphology etc., as well as the advantage of unlimited world wide availability at a very low raw material cost. Hydroxyapatite (HA), carbonated HA and fluorapatite from natural coral genus "Goniopora" has been obtained. Growth factor loaded coralline HA has been found to significantly accelerate early-stage bone formation in in vivo rabbit model studies. Sea shells have been tested as the source of calcium for electrochemical deposition of HA on titanium implants. Deproteinized hydroxyl carbonate apatite phase was formed by heating adult bovine tibia at 500o C. As eggshell could be easily procured, a great deal of effort has been made to utilize this resource as value-added CPCs including nanocrystalline HA (OHA), calcium deficient HA (CDHA), TCP, tetracalcium phosphate (TTCP) etc., which are the most widely used bone substitutes. Also OHA showed higher antibiotic delivery and more controlled protein release profile compared to the synthetic apatites. Eggshell derived CPCs were also found to have minor amount of Mg, Sr, Si and Na ions inherited from the eggshell. As these ions are crucial for bio-mineralization of eggshell, the influence of multi-ions substituted CPCs as a potential bioceramic for bone regenerative applications has been emphasised.
