Wes Montgomery's first recordings for Riverside were in a trio with organist Mel Rhyne and ironically his final albums for the struggling (and soon to be bankrupt) label were with Rhyne again. The brilliant guitarist is in fine form on these appealing tunes with the highlights including "Freddie the Freeloader," "Blues Riff" and "Moanin.'" As is true with most of Montgomery's CD reissues, there are a couple of "bonus" cuts (alternates of "Blues Riff" and "Moanin'") added to bring the playing time up a bit. All of this music is also available as part of Wes Montgomery's 12-CD Riverside box set. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide

of International Library of African Music (ILAM), in Hugh Tracey Fieldwork Collection and the Sound of Africa Series, TR189 (1950)
The leader was a Lambya but the rest of his friends were Henga. The song was sung in the Lambya dialect of Tumbuka. The foreign influence of school music is clearly discerned in this song which no doubt had a folk origin but is now distorted by extraneous harmony. A simple European style of clapping.

This concert is a celebration of Richard Wagner's 200th anniversary in 2013, featuring famous soloists of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra who perform Wagner's Siegfried Idyll at his home in Tribschen, Switzerland: The original place, where he composed and world premiered the piece on the staircase in 1870 as a birthday present to his wife Cosima. The program is rounded by the Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder in the original version for female voice and piano, performed by the exceptional mezzo-soprano Elisabeth Kulman and pianist Eduard Kutrowat on Wagner's original grand piano. The performance-part is complemented by documentary features offering an insight into Richard Wagner's life at Tribschen.
