This intensely personal film traces the filmmaker’s search for identity within the culture of her Armenian parents and in the context of the larger multicultural society in which she lives. Is it her responsibility to carry on the traditions of her forbears who bear the scars of the Genocide of 1915? Through her story one realizes how the legacy of history has impacted on a people. Those Armenians who survived the catastrophic persecution by the Ottoman Turks became part of a diaspora. The Artinians settled in Canada and fiercely maintained their identity as Armenians. Araz’ father started an Armenian school in Montreal, the Armenian language was spoken at home, and the conscience of the people demanded that the Turks acknowledge the brutality with which they killed one and a half million Armenians and drove out an equal number. When Araz journeys to Eastern Turkey to search for evidence of her people’s tragic history she finds that the guide books never mention the Armenians who once lived there.The Turks have been educated to minimize and explain away the Genocide. The Genocide in Me weaves together archival footage and moving interviews with elderly survivors to create a deeply felt portrayal of a holocaust that needs universal recognition. Through the eyes of an anthropologist this beautifully produced film explores the rich culture of rice, still the basis of survival for most people throughout the world. In the central Philippines lies a village where its indigenous people have lived among their rice terraces for over 2,000 years. If placed end to end, the rice terraces would circle nearly half the globe. In Bali, the Subak water temples foster a unique blend of technological efficiency and religious ritual that together create a perfect ecological balance. A growing problem, however, is that the world will soon run short of the free land required to grow enough rice to meet demand. To address this issue, scientists at the International Rice Research Institute are developing rice grains with improved nutritional value. The most successful strain is Golden Rice, called the "Rosetta Stone" of genetically modified crops. This new strain has triggered an ongoing fight between the scientists and the farmers. The scientists, here labelled "The New Gods of Rice," claim that the genetically engineered rice will eliminate disease and poverty. The farmers, in turn, fear the influence of a monopoly owned by biotech companies they worry are looking to drive them out of business. In Thailand, this battle has already begun with the companies patenting their own potent grains, a practice which may change the nature of rice forever.

Alors qu’elle occupe l’Irak et l’Afghanistan, l’armée américaine se demande pourquoi « elle est tant haïe ». Face à ce problème, le Pentagone adopte une stratégie nouvelle d’ouverture vers « le terrain humain » local - à savoir les populations iraquiennes et afghanes - pour gagner leur confiance et ouvrir le dialogue.
L’armée d’occupation semblerait-elle découvrir qu’elle traite avec des humains?
Le « Human Terrain System » voit le jour en 2003. Pour que ce système fonctionne, il faut en préparer les différents acteurs.
Le film nous emmène dans le désert de Mojave, où des soldats américains, des universitaires et des hommes parlant arabe enfilent leurs costumes pour jouer à la guerre et à la paix dans un simulacre de village afghan. Mais que se passe-t-il quand les sociologues et les anthropologues sont réellement embarqués dans le conflit armé avec les troupes militaires - quitte à en mourir? Quand les universitaires partent à la guerre, armés de leur masque à gaz et de leur gilet pare balles?
