A short documentary about the reunion and repair between Mike Africa Jr and his mother Debbie Africa—a formerly incarcerated political prisoner of the MOVE9. In 1978, Debbie, then 8 months pregnant, and many other MOVE family members were arrested after an attack by the Philadelphia Police Department; born in a prison cell, Mike Africa Jr. spent just three days with his mother before guards wrenched him away, and they spent the next 40 years struggling for freedom and for each other. In 2018, Mike Africa Jr. successfully organized to have his parents released on parole. “I realized that I had never seen her feet before,” was a remark he made when he reflected on Debbie’s homecoming. This film meditates on Black family preservation as resistance against the brutal legacies of state-sanctioned family separation.

Dujuan is a 10-year-old Arrernte and Garrwa boy from Mparntwe (Alice Springs) in Australia. Full of life and exuberance, he learns, with the support of his loving mother and grandmother, to hunt, speak two Indigenous languages and become a healer. Dujuan is politically astute and a leader in the making. But within the westernized school system, his strength and intellect go unnoticed and the colonial approaches to education threaten him with failing grades. At the time of filming, 100% of the youth in Alice Springs detention centers were Aboriginal, and throughout the film it becomes increasingly clear that the system is set up to work against young boys like Dujuan. This powerful film, made in collaboration with Dujuan's family, is an emotional journey through the fight to mend an educational schism between traditional culture and colonial ideas and solidify a future for the youth.

This ground-breaking series focuses on African innovation, addressing today’s and tomorrow’s problems with courage and imagination in equal measure. It is a fascinating look at how cutting-edge scientific technology from all over the world is being put to use to alleviate the problems faced by Africans today.
The thirteen part series tells stories from all over Africa, and introduces the people who are doing great things – from fighting the escalating gun crime in South Africa to unearthing and diffusing land mines in Mozambique; from astronomy to medicine; and from large scale engineering infrastructure to homegrown solutions to local problems – creating a sustainable future for individuals, families, communities and nations.
Along the scientific journey through the continent we are also treated to the workings of the largest telescope in the Southern hemisphere, stunning footage from the biggest game park in Namibia and inside information on how African athletes maintain their peak performances and prowess.
