Oxygen adsorption, aluminium segregation and interface adhesion on the surface of NiPtAl and MCrAlY bond coats (BC) in EB-PVD TBC system were investigated using first-principles calculations within the density functional theory (DFT). Examination of oxygen adsorption and aluminium segregation indicated that the addition of Pt always obstructed the growth of alumina. In addition, NiPtAl, as bond coats in EB-PVD TBC System, had less lattice variation and stronger interface adhesion than MCrAlY when alumina was produced. It is found that Pt is an important factor that affects the Al2O3 growth in thermal barrier coating. It is proved that Pt improves the bonding performance of Al2O3 and lifetime of thermal barrier coating. This offsets the high cost of Pt in industry application.

Titanium matrix composites (TMCs) were prepared by investment casting in a consumable arc skull casting furnace. The effects of B4C additions on ambient-temperature and high-temperature tensile properties of TMCs were investigated. It has been found that with the addition of B4C, the microstructure of TMCs was refined and the strength improved. The strength enhancement of the TMCs is ascribed to the combined effects of the second-phase strengthening, grain refinement strengthening and the solution strengthening. The grain refinement and solution strengthening effects play a main role in the yield strength enhancement of TMCs at ambient temperature, and the second-phase strengthening of TiB whiskers and TiC particles plays a more important role at high temperature.

Hydrous hydrazine is a promising hydrogen carrier material because of its high content of hydrogen (8.0 wt.%) and easy recharging as a liquid. Amorphous Ni8.1Co1.0Pt0.9/Ce2O3 nanoparticles with low precious-metal content were synthesized by a facile co-reduction method at room temperature under ambient atmosphere. The increased degree of amorphization was attributed to the introduction of Ce2O3. The resultant Ni8.1Co1.0Pt0.9/Ce2O3 nanocomposite was employed as an efficient nanocatalyst towards the decomposition of hydrous hydrazine to H2, and exhibited excellent catalytic activity and 100% H2 selectivity. Turnover frequency (TOF) value catalyzed by amorphous Ni8.1Co1.0Pt0.9/Ce2O3 is 93.75 h-1, which is much higher than Ni8.1Co1.0Pt0.9 (4.39 h-1) at 298 K. The development of the improved catalytic performance and low-cost catalyst with amorphous structure is believed to strongly promote the practical application of hydrous hydrazine as a hydrogen storage material.

The rapid growth in the use of corrosive gases transported by pressure vessels and pipelines has brought significant increase of risk to a number of people, both workers and public, whose life could be endangered at any one time by accident involving these chemicals. Due to the complexity of the involved physical phenomena and to the lack of an adequate amount of reliable experimental data, a number of different models and calculation procedures for estimating the consequences following the release of a corrosive gas are presently reported in the literature. The contribution deals with real scenarios of accidents associated with stationary risk facilities with corrosive flammable toxic chemicals. The study presents the results of hazardous zone calculation for the event of various corrosive liquids (Cl2, NH3, CCl2O, C3H4O) toxic releases. The goal of this article is to present the results of the approach of modeling using the standard methods and to demonstrate the importance of the next development stage in the area of corrosive materials accident modeling of releases and dispersions in cases of accident.

A novel and innovative process for full as well as hollow metal-matrix composite bead fabrication using gel-casting process by alginate gelation is investigated. In particular the influence of four different alginates and various solidifying agents have been investigated regarding the formation and stability of full and hollow beads. The suspension contained a metastable austenitic steel powder (16Cr7Mn3Ni) and zirconia particles as well as different alginates and was added dropwise into water containing different solidifying agents for forming beads. With the aid of sodium and potassium alginate dropped in solution with CaCl2, full metal beads have been obtained. Hollow beads have been produced using potassium alginate and Ca (OH)2 as solidifying agent and show a hollow space fraction of 65%. At lower strains (up to 15 %), all zirconia reinforced full steel beads obtain higher specific energy absorption (SEA) in comparison to pure steel beads.

This paper presents the analysis and the optimization of the process parameters for an innovative and more efficient production system for claw pole alternators intended for automotive application. The authors, after a preliminary study about forces, material properties and geometrical specifics to achieve, set out a first set of parameters to realize an 8-pole rotor. After that, it was possible to layout each step of the forging process in a FE model and observe the geometrical properties of the final rotor. Once reached a good comprehension of the whole process by preliminary studies, experiments were conducted with the effective material currently employed to build the claw pole and other information were collected to refine the finite element model. By comparing the results between the FEM and experiments, it was possible to build a realistic model, which allowed adjusting the process in short time in order to make the final product meet all the required geometrical specifics and pass the electrical tests.

With the development of the high-speed and high-precision CNC machine tools, the interaction between mechanical system and servo drive torque in the feed system becomes more and more serious which affects the surface quality of the workpiece. In this paper, taking a small-sized vertical milling center as the research object, the characteristics of servo torque and mechanical system are analyzed, respectively. Then the influence of electromechanical matching on the tracking fluctuation of the feed system is discussed. Furthermore, aiming at the surface roughness of the workpiece, the influence of the interaction between servo torque and mechanical system on the surface quality of the workpiece is analyzed under different milling ways. Finally, a large number of experiments are carried out to verify the analysis above. At last, the optimization methods of machining precision based on electromechanical matching are put forward. It can be found that in the high-speed machining, the servo torque has lots of harmonics which act on the mechanical system with kinds of modals, leading to the vibration. The surface quality of the workpiece will be deteriorated rapidly when the mode of vibration is consistent with the sensitive direction of machining error. The surface quality of the workpiece can be significantly improved through optimizing the feed velocity and the processing method and realizing the electromechanical matching.
