U. S. STRATEGISTS AT HAWAII
Commander-in-Chief, President Roosevelt convenes with General MacArthur, Admiral Nimitz and Admiral Leahy, after arriving from the mainland on a sleek, modern cruiser.
Their meeting is loaded with significance, as all attention is centered on a huge map of the western Pacific, with particular attention directed at the Philippines and Tokio.
On the parade grounds, the famous Seventh Regiment, heroes of the Aleutian outpost and the Kwajelein campaigns, pass in review.
YANKS ADVANCE IN GUAM
From their established beachhead, the Yanks attack Japs who are entrenched at Point Chonito, a high land. Mortar fire is particularly effective.
General Holland Smith, U.S.M.C., watches his men advance and capture their objective. Jap dead cover the ground in droves, and Jap installations are totally destroyed. One of the first tasks of the Seabees was the erection of a flag pole. The Stars and Stripes are restored to Guam.
YANKS ADVANCE IN FRANCE
We watch the Yank pattern of attack in France. Terrific bombing and artillery fire combine to disrupt Nazi ground transport, and to precede the advance of Yank infantry and tank units.
Town after town is found in utter ruins. Enemy equipment lies shattered everywhere and prisoners are secured in telling numbers. Jeeps race along, and the Doughboys march by in a celebrating mood.

THE INVASION OF OKINAWA
Conferences at Guam ended, Pacific Fleet Commander, Admiral Nimitz sends an armada of 1,400 vessels to Okinawa in the Ryukus. En route, the men of the new U. S. 10th Army stage their own deck entertainment, and secure their issue of invasion money.
Land sighted, the big guns of the fleet bark into action, and tons of rockets are sped shoreward. Landing craft race in, and unopposed landings are made. Inland, Jap dugouts and pill boxes are destroyed with grenades. Past broken forts, natives climb down from the hills, the Stars and Stripes are run up, and the Yanks prepare for their campaign on Okinawa--360 miles from Japan itself.
ADVANCING WITH THE U.S. 3RD ARMY
From hill positions, the Yanks are confronted with blistering fire from the Nazis in the valley below. When Yankee tanks, tank destroyers, and machine guns silence the enemy, the U.S. 3rd continues its victory advance, rolling by miles of burning and wrecked Nazi equipment. And a flood of Nazi prisoners streams to a collecting yard.

THE AIR STRIKE
Springing from decks of carriers in Task Force 38 a thousand dive bombers, torpedo planes and fighters add to Tokio's destruction, further cripples Japan's dwindling air forces, and ravages her industrial plants and transportation system. Bombs, rockets and heavy strafing create utter destruction and start terrific fires.

While steaming in battle formation a mere 3,000 yards off the Jap mainland, the giant 14in. and 16in. guns of Admiral Halsey's dreadnoughts open fire on Japanese steel plants and other industrial sites. They continue their heavy bombardment without a shot being returned from shore, nor does a single member of the Jap Imperial Fleet come out to do battle.

JAPAN SURRENDERS
Japan goes down to crushing defeat, her dream of Empire and of world conquest completely shattered to bits.
America, her fleet badly crippled at Pearl Harbor, quickly geared her efforts to wage a war of offence in Europe, and a defensive leap-frog campaign in the vast Pacific.
Brilliant sea victories at Coral Sea and Bismarck Sea stalled the "Tokio Express" headed for a conquest of Australia. The victory at Midway saved Hawaii and other U. S. defence zones. After Bataan, a succession of island victories begins--Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Tarawa, Kwajalein, Saipan, Guam, the Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Spectacular Kamikaze suicide defences are futile.
Allied air fleets, co-ordinating with the other two military arms, begin strategic bombing of the Jap homeland, which starts the Japs reeling. Allied naval fleets boldly steam off Japan's coastline; their carrier planes and naval guns create utter ruin and destruction.
From the Potsdam Conference, Japan is told to surrender, or else. The "or else" proves to be America's prize secret weapon--the Atomic Bomb which levels war plant areas and kills thousands. Russia declares war and invades Manchuria. The combination of events proves too much for the enemy. Japan sues for peace.

WAR THREATENS UNITED STATES, SAYS PRESIDENT
CHICAGO, ILL.--In a ringing speech, President Roosevelt warns of a steadily-increasing danger of armed conflict menacing the United States. Without naming any nation as responsible, the Chief Executive finds a threat in present attacks from the air on civilians, and ships attacked and sunk by submarines in time of peace and without cause or notice. Gravely, the President asserts that if such things can happen in other parts of the world, America cannot feel secure for long. Universal Newsreel presents the President's speech as a historic document, and gives with it a dramatic view of incidents of aggression which called forth Mr. Roosevelt's impassioned warning.
YANKS TAKE NICKEL SERIES OPENER
NEW YORK CITY.--Those hard-hitting New York Yankees live up to their reputation, downing the Giants 8 to 1 in the first game of another World's Series. Residents of the Big Town rejoice that they can get to each of the games on a nickel carfare. The pennant-winners go into the sixth inning with the Giants leading, 1 to 0. The mighty Hubbell is knocked out of the box then, as an avalanche of runs piles up the Yankee score. Four other Giant pitchers follow Hubbell, but the game is on ice for the Yanks. The tremendous throng sets up a roar as Lazzeri slams out a homer in the eighth, giving the Yankees their final score.
