The Good Woman of Bangkok is a no-holds-barred look at the profession of prostitution and is filmed by legendary documentarist Dennis O'Rourke. He turns the camera on a young woman named Aoi, who allows O'Rourke to both film her and be her paid lover, in one of the most personal and multi-layered documentaries of O'Rourke's canon. Born in a small Thai village and responsible to support her family, Aoi was drawn to prostitution as a source of income. Her career choice has an undeniable impact on her self-esteem and her outlook on life and love, and she candidly addresses both, lending the documentary a raw and authentic voice. O'Rourke is never seen on camera, but is the voice interviewing Aoi through the film, and she addresses him on-screen many times, adding a complex layer not typically seen in documentary film. Further blurring the lines of documentarist and participant, O'Rourke offers to buy her family farm, freeing her from the economic necessity to prostitute herself, but in a postscript to the film, O'Rourke returns a year later, and Aoi is still working in a massage parlor, denying herself and the film of a Hollywood happy ending. O'Rourke himself described the film as "...a metaphor for capitalism, here played out across the borders of race and culture, and about prostitution as a metaphor for all relations between men and women." He addressed his involvement in the film by saying, "I have exposed myself in order to force the audience to reconsider the whole nature of documentary film practice. Under the thrall of our separate desires, we are all implicated in some way."

In Historical Disasters: black Christmas, Reel Vision Films tells the harrowing story and looks at how mining safety has evolved up to present day. The documentary investigates why the disaster happened through interviews with local experts, family members of those involved, computer graphic reconstruction and actual photographs of the terrible aftermath. As we know from the recent disasters in US and Canadian mines, these often unnecessary tragedies still happen today.

Through the remarkable eye of first time film director, GREG REITMAN, we get a first hand glimpse of The Magic Isle. While exploring historical, social, and environmental changes, the film captures the mystical splendors, natural beauty and romance of Santa Catalina Island. Using a mix of rare 16mm, archival film and old black and white stills, inter-cut with interviews of islanders, historians and celebrities; the viewer is taken on a journey during America’s golden era. It begins with the acquisition of the Santa Catalina Island Company in 1919 led by William Wrigley, Jr. He set a course for Catalina’s future in the world of art, sports, music and entertainment that was unmatched in US history even through present day. The film documents architectural achievements, many first of a kind buildings and innovations that transformed Catalina from a simple island into a modern day state-of-the-art playground. The film highlights many of the individuals including stars of the Big Band Era, Marilyn Monroe, and the island’s role as Hollywood’s secret playground for the stars. The island even played a role in helping to elect President Ronald Reagan. We witness the island’s tragedy and heartache – deftly captured in the film with heartfelt interviews and a score that tugs at the emotions. Utilizing interviews with Jean-Michel Cousteau, heirs of the Wrigley family, residents and visitors of the island; we learn of William Wrigley, Jr’s dream of preserving the island’s natural beauty as well as providing a magical place for all to enjoy. The film concludes with Art Good Jazz Trax, Fender’s Catalina Island Blues Festival, and a visual kaleidoscope of modern day Catalina Island as an ecological paradise highlighting the revival of the island as a place of leisure and entertainment.

The longer those afflicted stay in their homes, the sicker they become, but finding a safe place to live is an extreme challenge. In Homesick, Susan Abod, herself a victim of MCS, hits the road to learn how other people with MCS are finding safe housing. On her journey to the Southwestern United States, Susan meets people from all walks of life who have fallen prey to MCS and are imaginatively creating safe living environments for themselves. She discovers living quarters ranging from a house on stilts to tents and teepees. Join Susan as she explores a little known world and discovers how people are coping with this growing epidemic.

In 1978, Shenzhen was declared a special economic zone by the Chinese government, open to both native and foreign investors. Its development has been spectacular, with its population rising from 30,000 to 5 million inhabitants. When Hong Kong was returned to China in 1997, the frontier between the former British territory and Shenzhen theoretically disappeared. However, in actuality the border is still closed and integration is slow to occur. For Hong Kong, the risk of a massive illegal Chinese emigration is viewed as a threat to its economic stability. Also, since Hong Kong remained a free port with no import taxes, the Chinese are controlling the border to prevent those from Shenzhen using it as a way to escape taxes. The low cost of labor and real estate in Shenzhen have persuaded nearly 80% of Hong Kong manufacturers to relocate their factories there. Many successful "Hong Kongers" now want to live on the other side as well, in the beautiful new homes being built for them. High School Adult
